Convert 540 PTO to 1000??

Many thanks for all the replies. I posted on the New Holland forum and Rick B says my tractor (TN70) can't be converted. The one I was looking at was the Land Pride RCRM 2510. We have 3 batwings (not used on this little tractor) but have been using a Woods 10 footer (for tighter areas) but this week the center gear box blew up and also ruined at least one of the side gear boxes. Fortunately when I went and looked at what was advertised as the RCRM 2510 it turned out to be the RCR 2510 model which is the 540 rpm model. It only had 4 hours usage and looked brand new (chap who purchased it decided it wasn't wide enough and gave it back and got a bat wing) I am going to try it out and see what the cut looks like. The Woods had a really nice cut...but this one at $5k probably is not much more than replacing at least 2 gear boxes plus labor and it is also about 12 years old. The Woods is a heavier cutter, but all it was used for was cutting grass. I'm going to at least get an estimate for the repair and if it is not too much will effect the repair....since implements are like shotguns....you can never have too many! Plus we needed a cutter for our tight places right now and to wait on the ordering of parts and getting it fixed would take too long. Anybody with experience with this model?

just an fyi - for any of you with various batwing mowers that have the combo gearbox in front that runs the two wing gears boxes AND the front/center blade - we have three rhinos with that setup and they are NO LONGER available from rhino or any aftermarket gear box manufacturers you can only find as salvage items only - the guys with the salvage ones are well aware of it also.

If you notice a lot of manufacturers if not all have gone to the front gearbox not running the center blade and run a separate gearbox with only a straight through shaft from the winged/drive gearbox in front.

If you see a 3 gearbox batwing RUN, go for one with the 4 gearbox setup.

We ended up buying a used mower for parts because they were wanting 1500 just for the front/center gearbox used salvage - we got an entire used mower for 2750 - it needed a couple seals and one tire and leaky

unless SOMEONE in the past 5 yrs has started making them, you would still be in that boat if yours goes out - I would be deere and others would be in the same situation since we called many gearbox manufacturers and they said they were not aware of anyone that makes them that way anymore

hopefully we weren't mislead but we tried really hard to find one

If you're looking to convert to a four gearbox deck, it looks like Surplus Center can set you up with a 1 to 3 gearbox that is rated for 270 horsepower and a gearbox that you could use for the center spindle which is rated for 170 horsepower for about $500.
