Convert a rear blade into a front blade?

If you just want to raise/lower a blade, it sounds like you have it figured out.
While you are still in the design stages, I would suggest thinking about the following options:

  1. Power lift/angle (I have gotten spoiled by having a power angle blade on the front of my FIL's BX2660)
    • Find a truck plow that uses a belt driven hydraulic pump at a JY and convert that to work on your tractor.
    • Electric powered truck plow adapted to your tractor, I would avoid this as they suck down a LOT of amps and you would probably need to upgrade the alternator if you use the pump much.
    • Add a truck power steering pump, a two spool valve (possibly a loader valve), a truck plow and you are good to go. As a bonus, you would have (assuming a Jeep TJ PS pump, others may be better) 1350 PSI of pressure at 2.1 GPM available any time the engine is running. For extra fun you could plumb it into your transmission so as to have more capacity.
  2. Power lift, manual angle:
    • Winch to lift and lower a manually angled plow, this will be the cheapest option, but I would avoid it if possible as it makes life MUCH easier if you can change the plow angle while moving.
    • Cylinder on the back (on three point) linked to one on the front, will work, but IIRC, you lose hydraulic power when the clutch is depressed and as such, stopping and raising the plow would get complicated in a hurry.
I would recommend a belt driven truck hydraulic pump mounted in front, while it is the most complicated (and possibly expensive) in the short run, it will give you the most flexibility down the road.

My old allis "B" uses a cable from the lift, thru two pulleys, then connected to front.

This tractor had a dozer type blade on it when I bought it and the front anchor was attached to the axle pivot. The blade is an old Monarch Road Mach Prod unit from the 50's that has been welded on & on & on...

I also have the generator mounted hydraulic pump with a single spool. I hope to put this on sometime.

I will keep the PS pump idea in mind. It may prove to be more reasonable than I thought. Or, as an upgrade down the road. The big thing I will have to figure out is where to put the tank.

I have thought about a cable lift, but the problem there comes back to my lack of live hydraulics. For the 3pt to operate, I have to have the clutch out. Which means, I have to either be moving or stopped in neutral. ROYAL pain, even with a back blade on the 3pt.

As for the draw of a winch. Since it has already been converted to 12v, it has a GM 10si alternator, so the charging system is quite strong.

I would rather not go the electric over hydraulic route like a truck plow. Just because of the bulk involved in the powerpack.
