Is the 908 a flail mower? My 917 is a flail & those have belts that will slip & function like a sheer pin or clutch. Makes the need moot.
If your input shaft is splined you need a PTO shaft that has a sheer pin assembly integral to the shaft. If the input is round with a big hole, the sheer pin connects the PTO shaft to the input shaft via that hole. There will also be a groove on the input shaft & a set screw on the PTO shaft goes into the the groove. That keeps the PTO on the input shaft after the sheer pin breaks.
A whole new PTO shaft is $100-200. I'd give the guys at drive-lines.com a call. Their website is only ok, but the guys answering the phones quote specs from memory. They might be able to help you out if you give them proper dimensions & requirements. They were helpful on sorting out a shaft to attach to my clutch with appropriate sized U joints.
