JD 4200
I've had the #72 mower that came with my JD 4200 for sale, no takers. Then I got to thinking how hard would it be to convert it to a 3pt mower? Has anyone done this conversion?

One of the biggest challenges would be the gear box...The Mid-PTO spins at 2100 RPM while the rear is 540.

I say keep advertising it...

I agree. You will spend more time and money tracking down all the parts needed than what a new finish mower will cost.

Yep, keep trying to sell it. Even if that means getting your dealer to sell it on consignment.

Most folks who have mid-mount mowers like them...why do you want to convert yours? (No, I'm not a mid-mount fan...rear finishing mowers are easier to work with).

I was thinking about the conversion so it'd be easier to use although I don't really need it. So I guess I'll keep it for sale.

Yep, and the 4400 does have a mid-PTO...but I prefer rear finishing mowers.
Boy, I live maybe an hour away from Mighty Dodge...what a coincedence.

You know, since Kenny brought up the 4400 and Mighty Dodge is in Baltimore County, I'm going to suggest he call Southern York Turf and Tractor to see if they'll sell that big mower. That place is really busy (meaning a lot of folks look around) and they have a nice lot for display.
Can't hurt to call 'em and ask...they'd probably want a 10%-20% seller's fee though.

I deal with Southern York all the time in fact I bought my tractor from them. I'll probably end up trying to sell it through them of course if Kenny wants to make me an offer.:D

Thanx for all the replies

The 72" won't fit my machine-And I am NOT buying a new :tractor: just to buy your used MMM:thumbdown:

Did you get the cylinders back together?

I haven't had time to fool with the cylinders. I did figure out how that stupid plastic ring is supposed to work. I had it in right but when I started pulling it apart the gland pulled the split side of the ring out of the groove which then distorted the crap out of it. I'll try the bondo trick. I guess they made them this way because it was cheaper and more difficult for the owner so you'd go to them for the repair.

That mower deck will adapt to the F930, F935, F1145 front grass cutters. That should attract additional interest. I have the MMM in 72" and an F935 with the 72" Commercial deck. They look to be exactly the same with some extra bolt-on fittings. You should interest a user with the 60" worn out or rusted thru deck.

The MMM is a 1:1 gearbox. The rear mower equivalent would be a speedup gear set. Maybe all you need is the gears. Check with JD parts to see if that's all it would take (other than the lift link attachments)...
