I just bought a 4210 without the folding ROPS. Did anyone ever convert their rollbar to the folding style? If I could buy the brackets I could weld it myself. I can't transport my tractor because my trailer is not high enough.

Quick questions....

Why didn't you buy the 4210 with the folding ROPS? If it wasn't an available option, then why didn't you upgrade to the 4310 which I believe has the foldable ROPS? Getting the folding hinges to do this yourself, cutting the top part of the ROPS off, welding the hinges in place, etc seems problematic. It just seems you're going about this the wrong way. If you knew your trailer couldn't carry the tractor without the foldable ROPS, then why buy it in the first place and then hoping you could solve this problem by modifying the ROPS.

It may be doable but what do you do if it's not? Sell the tractor??????

Be very careful about cutting the ROPS. Definately frowned on by Deere, and can cause a mess of issues. You can probably buy a folding unit and sell this one on ebay...

I have a 2210 that is not offered with a folding ROPS and have the same issue of it not fitting in my enclosed trailer. I don't need a bigger tractor. I am considering cutting the ROPS off about 1 foot below the curved top section then welding smaller square tubes inside the top section that would go inside the vertical tubes that are still attached to the tractor. 3-4 grade 8 bolts per side to attach the inner and outer tubes together. This is a little more work than a hinge but should be stronger than original and certainly stronger than welding in a hinge.

I have talked with my dealer and Deere is not going to offer a folding ROPS. I can remove it which is even less safe than modifying it, or I can buy another trailer, which is cost-prohibitive.

I'm all for safety, but understand that buying a bigger tractor just to get a folding ROPS is not an effective solution.

And I really think that Deere should offer this on all their tractors it's a real oops that this is not offered on the small-chassis CUT's.

I asked the same question when I was looking before my purchase. I was told by several dealers that it would void the warrenty on the tractor. I understand this...because if I altered a component of the tractor frame and something happens, it would be difficult to say or prove that there was defect. Also there is a folding ROPS kit available. It would be listed in the parts manual that the service or parts department would have.

I have a 4200 with the folding ROPS. It is a well made heavy duty device. I wouldn't make ANY modification to such a critical piece of safety equipment for my own safety and for the safety of anyone else who might use the tractor....wife, kids, whomever. I could never forgive myself if my modification caused someone to be injured or killed.

My advice is buy a folding ROPS and get rid of the non-folding one anyway you can.

I solved my problem for now, my dealer is going to deliver it and the only reason that I have to transport it is to wash it. It would be cheaper to buy a portable car wash than a folding roll bar. I didn't think that I would get so many responses to this question.

The way I look at it is the roll bar was built by a human being so it can be modified by one. The only issue is liability, if a modified roll bar fails John Deere can't be sued for more than it is worth. I live in Canada, here there isn't billion dollar law suits for every little problem like Mcdonalds coffee.

I think the idea of a roll bar that unbolts is a good one. Thick wall tubing that fits inside the old one will be stronger than the original one if it is done right. It might not be as user friendly as a folding one, but it is not like I will take it apart daily. I think some of you would have problems sleeping at night with a modified rollbar.

I would rather have a potential problem pointed out, and make an informed decision. It wouldn't be right for folks to say, yeah sure, gp for it! - when it is such a quagmire...

Sounds like you're a reasonable person. I for one, would not pass up the chance to nuy another tool to keep from transporting to go clean.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
