Convert Toyota pickup to dually?

Find yourself a 2wd Toyota PU with the dually rear axle. The carriers are the same so you can just swap your carrier and gears over.

You're likely to bust bearings hubs or shafts if you extend it so far out. I know a guy with a Ford Granada with wheel extenders. it looked cool, but he lost wheels many times when pulling away fast.

personally I do not think you will ever need dual wheels on that small truck, to carry the load

Basically a truck that can be taken down tight, and sometimes very rough trails, pickup a heavy load, and get back out again.

They have those. They're called tractors.

Sell the whole truck for 900. Motor locked up. Has 14" wheels if that makes any difference.

It was a Uhaul truck. Wish they had made these 4x4

I have to ask why build one? Why a dually, much simpler single wheel, upgrade the rim size to heavier tire if you need....I mean you only hauling the weight off road. Find ya some 5 or 6 hole 16'' rims. put some cheap 14 ply import trailer tires on it and go. If its mainly offroad, weld the rearend up or pay the $ for a spool, more money for a locker. OR just buy a small tractor that will have more use

Enjoyed reading this post as I used to have a Datsun,Mazda,and Luv truck. In the late 70's and early 80's these were the answer to higher gas prices. The company name,'' Rick a Dual'' seems to come back to me as the company who made those adapters. Currently have a Dually 4x4 Ford diesel. One can not be made into the other. Enjoy your project -that is how we all learn.

Save your money, because the first time you load it up your going to kill the truck ! either the axle will bust or the frame will turn into a V.. then what ? your out a bunch of time and money.. Get a trailer or a real truck for that job. Better yet, get a tractor.. then it can be used for other things as well... good luck.

I once had a 1982 Toyota 2WD truck. Had it for about 10 years and was still in fair shape. Kept it inside, very little rust, I was just sick of a small truck. I put it on the road and someone bought it. A year later I ran into the man who bought it and I asked him how the beater was doing. He said the frame in the center of the truck bent in or caved in. Of course I felt sheepish after that but he confided that he was hauling rocks on the farm with it.
The axle might hold up, but what about the other stuff? I would hate to have a truck where the best thing on it is the axle.
