Always figured that those import winches would be fine for the job of turning the snow shute. And the price is right!
I would think that one could simply rewind the cable supplied in a shorter format with the cable center attached to the drum with , say 5-6 turns in both directions and then do a 1 1 /2 or 2 turns around the shute base with the ends attached to the shute.
The result would be similar to the hand cable crank system only the winch would do the turning.
Those kits even come complete with the reversing switch.
The only chalange would be mounting the winch vertically with the drum facing the shute base, but that should be a piece of cake to most TBN'ers.
Myself I used an electric wheelchair drive motor as it had loads of torque and incorporated a reduction gearbox. I simply added a sprocket and wrapped and anchored a length of drive chain around the shute base.
Have been using this for 3 seasons without any problems at all.
