I just went out and measured it. The drive sprocket is about 1-3/4" and the driven sprocket at the track is about 6". The reduction is about 3.5 to 1. The driven gears runs a track sprocket that's about 10" in diameter These machines literally have to crawl at probably one foot per second in low gear which is about 1/2 mile per hour. I don't have a calculator in front of me but this tells me the drive motors have to turn pretty slowly and require quite a bit of torque

Looks like I'm a year or so late but wondering if this project is completed. Reason is I have an MT 1800 with a peerless transmission (the housing is broken at the axle). I have a ZTR drive (a pair of Eaton #778) from a snapper mower that has promise of being adapted. My plan is to drive each track sprocket utilizing the current braking system. I haven't counted the number of teeth in the sprockets to get the exact reduction but eyeballing it looks to be around 6 to 1 from ZTR to track sprocket. To drive the Eaton drives I was planning on adding a hydraulic pump and motor in lieu of a belt and right angle gearbox. I might be a little shy of horsepower as the mower had a 15 HP Kohler and the 1800 has a 18HP Briggs.
Would appreciate any input as I plan on adding this as a project in progress to the website.

I also have an MT 1800 Struck dozer.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but a hyd motor for each side.

Look at the torque on those motors and get the highest you can find.

Using 18 HP, you can pump 9 GPM at 3000 psi, or 10.5 GPM at 2500 psi.

To get the 9 GPM from that engine, you need a pump with a displacement of .6 cu in.

You might also look at these ZTR hyd sets.

Thanks for the response. I already have the ZTRs salvaged from a Snapper mower. It looks like a combination of .5 and .58 Parker motor/pumps from Surplus Center would be a close match to the torque/rpm requirements of the Eaton 778s. Since the existing pump runs a pressure system I'm losing some HP as that runs continuely. As it will be an open system I might be able to use the existing reservoir or maybe add a small heat exchanger. I built a set of tracks for this unit which is posted in the Struck group.
