Converting field to Lawn

TC18guy,

I'm currently doing the same thing to a couple of acres in my back "yard". My soil composition is simply put every imaginable diifferent size of rocks from sand to watermelon sized and bigger (see pit run). I've now taken out all the big rocks, graded the loeftover to my specs with the box blade, "cleaned" it up a little more with the landscape rake and am now just waiting a month or so until the rains begin. I'll throw down some grass seed and hit it with a good fertilizer (10-10-10 works well I've been told) every 3 months or so and just keep it well mowed with my RFM. I've done a small area for test in the front part of the property and it is looking pretty darn good considering we've had very little rain this summer. I can't wait to do the back. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It sounds like we have about the same soils. I don't have much clay. sometimes it's nice sandy topsoil, other times its red gravel. when we dug the basement, we hit a huge pocket of pure beach sand. when I dug my slab for my barn it was nothing but hard packed gravel.

I dug about 4' deep into a hill for the back of my barn and the excavater dug a bunch of dirt from behind the barn to fill in around 2 sides of the foundation (we should've built a walkout). All this area has been stripped of topsoil, I've been spreading some around to cover these areas too. It's been a lot of fun, I mean work.
