Converting trailer from "spoke" wheels

/ Converting trailer from "spoke" wheels #11
My trailer originally had mobile home axles and I was going to convert them to 8 bolt hubs. After pricing out the hubs and brake assemblies I figured I should do shackles and bushings and a broken leaf and such but in the end it was actually cheaper to buy the whole axle assembly complete and just weld on the new shackles. It can be done either way but I would have a good look at the whole outfit. If it's that old it would suck to buy new hubs then realize you need new brakes, bearings, or springs and the list goes on.

OP Does the trailer have brakes on it? And what is the trailers gross load?

The axle had brakes but I never wired them up. This is my little trailer for the little jobs, a ton or under. It's a tilt deck, good for lawn tractors, Atv's, picking up things too bulky for the bed of a pick up.

Might be close in price to just buy a 3500lb idler or look on craigslist. 3500lb axles are cheap and common, as are the 5 lug wheels. The hubs available for that axle are going to be 6 or 8 lug.
