Cooking oil cheaper than diesel?

Two issues ago CR did a story on a Jetta running on cooking oil. They bought a conversion kit for about $700. You had to start & stop the car on diesel, but you could run it on the used cooking oil. I would consider a diesel truck with an aux tank with that setup.

I have sold a few kits for this two tank conversion or as I like to call it, "supplementary fuel system", since it keeps the stock fuel system intact. I have not stepped up to get my conversion business rolling as I should. Too busy just keeping up with my steady job. I will be moving to my 50 acres in TN in about a month and leaving my hectic life in GA behind. Hopefully I will then be able to share my experiences with alternative energy, building and fuels with other interested in the same. Maybe when I have some more of these "life" experiences under my belt I will be a bit more motivated to make a business out of it.

I'm not exactly sure. I have a waste vegetable oil source and their oil is still liquid down to about 20 degrees. I believe it depends on the type of oil that the biodiesel is made from.
