Some not-so-beautiful pics...kind of gross actually. Most of you are fortunate in that you never have had to deal with Mormon cricket infestations. We've been dealing with them for about 5 years straight now. The ground turns black with them when they begin to migrate, looking for green stuff to eat. When they are done only stubble is left.

When they move in mass across the highways their bodies cause the road surface to become greasy and slick when they are run over and crushed, causing accidents...not to mention the stink as the desert sun broils their carcasses.

All law enforcement can do is put up warning signs; the Federal government (these things are mainly on Federal public lands; 87% of Nevada is public land administered by the Federal government) claims they are "part of the ecosystem" and will do nothing about them.

Now I said keep the BEAUTIFUL PICS coming..... that's just nasty!

Reminds me of a bug infestation we has about 4 years ago.... I walked out onto our covered deck.... the back wall of the house was covered with these little green / black beetle looking things no bigger than 1/8". Hosed them off.

Then walking across the gravel driveway, it appeared to be moving, it was covered with those bugs! I can't remember what they were (there was a big conversation on the neighborhood facebook page). We had been living here for 20+ years and never saw them before. The infestation lasted about a week, and they were gone, as fast as they came.....
