We have a small portion of the first American road in FLa running across our property. Need to go check it with metal detector. I did some Breif reading, and I didn't realize, apparently it largely followed the path of a Spanish road (El Camino Real?) from St Augustine to Pensacola. But apparently, it was in active use from 1828 till, portions, still in use (not this peice). Apparently it was pretty critical in the defense of Florida during the war, keeping the union from penetration into the inland.
Wife's grandmother used to live near "old brick road" a Spanish royal road from St Augustine, running inland to the town of Espanola, and had a couple hand fulls of old musket balls, and small cannon balls they found near it. The cannon balls were small, like 1"/25mm or so, maybe 1.25", but too large for a shoulder fired musket.
