COOLANT CONCENTRATION LEVEL NEW KIOTI .. WHAT IS YOURS

My new Kioti has a coolant concrentration level at 5 degrees above zero; using mini hydrometer. This seems too weak for Nothern climates. Was wonder if all new Kioti
tractors are shipped at this level? -22F today in Iowa.

Makes me wonder at what temperature does coolant really freeze at compared to hydrometer reading.

A good refractometer is inexpensive and more accurate.

For your location a worthwhile investment.
Speak with your dealer but it seems a few ounces at a time of removing coolant and adding 100% coolant until the freeze protection point is achieved.

Simple tool but the accuracy over floating balls is worth it.

Thanks.. I will get one. I always questioned the accuracy of those hydrometers with little balls floating.

How much coolant does your system hold. Drain exactly half and replace with full strength anti-freeze. This will get you to lower than -35F. Replace with full strength NOT the pre-diluted stuff.

The other thing about Kioti is the green coolant they still use that almost all car manufacturers no longer utilize. It should be replaced every 5 years or at least checked for PH level every so often.

Most manufacturers ship their machines with coolant good to -34f or 50/50 mix.

50-50 is about ideal. I would not go more than 50% glycol. Too much glycol (like 100%) can form a film on the coolant passages that reduces cooling capability while providing less freeze protection.

Ive been thinking about draining the factory green coolant in mine and changing it over to rotella elc. I run the elc in all my other diesels, and wonder why they use just plain ole green from the factory.

Make sure you use antifreeze for diesel engines as regular automotive antifreeze can lead to damage in a diesel engine.
