Cordless chainsaw, hedge trimmer recommendations?

WOW, you guys have made what I thought was a simple decision more complicated. Gonna have to sit down tonight and go thru specs/prices/etc. and make out a spreadsheet to help make a decision.

But wait, there is more! Nome of these battery powered tools will be used more than a few times a year. So maybe the cheaper Kobalt would be the way to go. Hmmm.....

Under those circumstances, and if you've already got at least one Kobalt 40v battery, that's what you should get.

It’s really that simple.

A friend just brought me a leaf blower for the Oregon Cordless system. LOVE IT so far. Now with the chainsaw (Self Sharpening), pole saw (LOVE IT) and Weed EATER (LOVE IT) I realize it's the saw that first got me into the OREGON system that hardly gets used at all.

Agreed... if only using 'a few times a year'. Save yourself some money and stick to the brand you already have. But for me it was a long term decision and a decent amount of property and long driveway to maintain. In both cases, I have stuck with one brand for batteries (shop hand tools - DeWalt, garden tools - Stihl). Don't ever plan to change out my fleets at this point.

Anybody have any experience with the Kobalt 40-v chainsaw or hedge trimmers? I already have a Stihl gas powered but occasionally need to cut one fallen limb apart or drive to a neighbors and cut one limb for them. It seems that the little Kobalt would be ideal for that, No gas to mix. No cords to pull. Throw it (gently) in the bucket of the tractor or bed of the truck and take off. Same way with the hedge trimmer. I have a corded one but some of what I need to cut is away from power.

I already have a leaf blower with the 40-v battery and want to stay with the same line. Just wondering if anybody else has them.

I can tell you from experience the Kobalt 80 volt hedge trimmers are JUNK.Owned 2 of them in 12 months both went back for full refund.I do own there 24v & 40v products with no issues.

I've been reading this thread, because I've been thinking of getting a battery chain saw, for at least cutting small stuff after storms. Then INDUSTRIAL TOYS mentioned a self-sharpening chainsaw!!!! I never heard of that!!! Sharpening chains is a real pain!!!(No pun intended) Do self-sharpening chain saws work??? What brands are there?

Milwaukee 18 volt Fuel battery powered tools , you will never want anything else , they will do what others require 36, 40 and higher volts to do, we use them on the line crew everyday and if they can hold up under us they will last a homeowner forever. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It's what sold me on the spot for the Oregon Cordless saw. Self sharpening. BUT, I never intended it to replace a gas saw. Just a saw to have along on a trail ride (in my Electric Gator) to clear the path if necessary.
