( Chris, I never mentioned any shunt loading for discharge
Nor did I, I'm talking about tapping the trigger down until the batteries are dead
)

Draining the battery thru the motor coil is much different than a shunt load... I think of a shunt load as a large copper bar dropped across the terminals...

( And just for clarification.. we are not talking about a high current discharge.

High current discharge in my mind is at a 5C to 10C rate and this is pretty much what a power tool load is.
)

Again.. huge difference between letting a tool run unloaded.. and levaing it running under load..

( Just seen too many instances where that gives reduced performance

How would you distinguish this reduced performance from improper charging?? NiCd battery problems are primarily attributal to cheap cells, abusive use and improper charging.
)

Can't argue about the cheap cell issue.. I agree with you. However the abuse and chraging issues.. well.. The references I was making were to nicads in my use. I don't 'think' they were abused.. and as to improper charging.. I generally follow what's in the manual.. and hope the manufacturer really specced it out and is not using boilerplate instructions.

( Maybe like Santa, the tooth fairy, the great pumpkin and bigfoot it is more fun to believe. I'm gone )

That's not an apples to apples comparison.. one is theory.. one is emperic evidence.

I've never met either of the 4.. however.. I have seen with my own eyes and test equipment degrade performance from nicads, depending on the charge and use habits of the user.

Again it does not say I have to do anthing by my city. For the increase in taxes in 2-years (over $2K for a small house), my mayor should walk door to door and collect the batteries!

All my fluids (antifreeze, paint thinner, oil, gear lube etc) get brought to my neighbor since he has a used oil heater. Have a poured them all on the ground, nope. Not on my property by my old neighbor did with gallons and gallons, for years, to keep dirt done. Not my behind.

I spend thousands on a heli because I want to . I do not want to drive to home depot since I do not HAVE too and for what? A few batteries. If the recycle was so important mandate it since I pay over $300 per year for trash pickup alone.

And yes I do what is easy for me since it is my life. Responsibility has nothing to do with it. It is like chemicals. Today some are bad, but for 50 years ago they were fine. Same with batteries, up until the “recycle stickers” came out, they did not recycle anything. Again if it is so important mandate it or make a refund of XXX dollars to make it worth the trouble or time; like soda cans in my state. Untill them, all goes in my trash. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I see, OK Mike, whatever you say.

PS.. I say it's wonderful you decide and have the ability to enjoy your hobby spending whatever you desire. I'm always pleased for folks who enjoy what they have.
