Cordless Drill

Its all in the gearing. My favorite cordless drill is still my 20 year old Black and Decker 9.6v. The batteries gave up years ago but I've managed to 'modify' a few 14v batteries from other lousy drills I've bought. Its only got 1 speed but it has way more grunt than any of the 18v models I've wasted money on. It really bugs me that batteries are rarely interchangeble. Next drill I get will have a mechanical gearbox, not just variable speed.

One feature I did like on a recent purchase was little LED light on the drill. I thought it was just going to be a useless gimmick but I actually found it quite handy.

I thought the LED light on my Makita tools was a silly gimmick too. Then I starting using the drill and have found it to be very usefull in low lighted areas. I wouldn't buy a drill without it now.

I had considered making my 19 volt 'corded' for a car battery, it would still run almost the 'normal' speed on 12 volts, of course the cord could be 'lightweight"Lol
I almost used an old drill to turn the spiral swing mechanism on my snowblower. so there is life after death, rather it be the drill itself or its heart(the battery) your right with the gear reduction.
And those small rechargeable 'screw drivers" well I laughed at my first and when it died. I was right there at Wal Mart buying another one. very handy .guess its just not a 'manly' tool LOL
