The cordless phones that are designed for use in the US have transmit power restrictions placed upon them and each manufacturer has to meet those sepcs. The long haul phones may not be worth the investment if the FCC finds you using them. )</font>

FCC would not allow them to be used if they weren't legal. They've been used for years, but, like I said, they are not for everyone.
Their main drawback is the price, which puts this squarely in the industrial & business type use.
