I have a wood boiler in the cellar piped in with the oil boiler, so the number of conversions for me is about the same. I doubt it is anywhere near your nice Jotul. It is nice that it pipes the heat around the whole house though.

I thought that 50 % was about right since you have to loose so much heat up the flue to keep it warm to avoid creosote.

Even if that is on the low side it looks like its well worth chopping some wood.

Gotta keep track of the cost of wood. Labor, saws, splitter, tractor. If it gets too high I can find better ways to get exercise. :)

Of course there are things other that direct costs that need to be factored in. The exercise alone is worth a bundle compared to cost of a club dues, the educational factor for kids of learning the joy of looking back at a job well done, the communing with nature (at my age I think I am spending almost as much time sitting on a stump as running the saw), the ambiance of a fire...
