Well... I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Landpride CA2560 Core Aerator. I'm bound and determined to turn 10-acres of not so healthy bermuda grass into lush green fairway. I decided on the 5' model with dual water tanks because you get the same number of spoons and gangs as with the 6' model, but closer gang spacing and for a couple hundred bucks less. It's due to be delivered in a couple of weeks and I'll let you guys know if it does a good job of reducing soil compaction. I sure hope it does 'cause they ain't cheap /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif.

I'm glad to hear that you're impressed with yours Dana. I've seen them used on the golf course and they do seem to make a real difference. I started to get the 72" but decided to go ahead and save a few bucks and get the 60". Besides... a foot less in length just means I'll get to stay on my tractor a little longer /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. The number of spoons and gangs is the same on both models... just a gang spacing difference and the 72" carries a little more weight in the tanks. I've got level land with sandy loam soil, similar to what you've got in Kansas, so I think 900lbs vs 1,100lbs won't make much of a difference. I'm really anxious to get the unit here while we're still having spring rains.

By the way. What part of Kansas are you from? I go up to Nickerson a couple of times a year to bird hunt. Nice country... nice folks /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Thanks for your input...

I'll make it a point to look you up next time I'm up that way. Now all I gotta do is figger out how to pull my dog trailer and a flat-bed so I can bring back some of those other Landpride implements I'm eyeing and still get to hunt /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Does Landpride have a "slightly defective" outlet store up there where you can buy "cheap"? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I really wanted the 72" as well, but the cost was $1,875 w/tanks and the 60" was $1,675 w/tanks. I figger I can put that $200 toward the next implement I want.

See ya...

From what I understand ant thing slightly defective is cut with a torch and scrap yard recycle bin. LP is very protective of there dealers.

Just an update. I received the Landpride aerator and it works GREAT! Finished aerating last night and plan to spread fertilizer this afternoon in anticipation of rain tonight. The Landpride CA2560 is one rugged piece of equipment. With the optional water tanks I purchased, I can put about 1,000lbs of weight over the coring spoons for great penetration in most soil conditions.

Sounds good to me. I have never seen a bad piece of equipment from Landpride. It's what your gonna have when your done. I can see greener and thicker pasture later this year or next.
The golf course people plug and scrape the plugs off. Sand and again spread. The horses would have that all torn up in short order. Also works for some rural ball fields.
We too have the soil that will need plugging. Air, water and food. But still firm enough to stand up to traffic.
All that care your given it FarmerBob and your just gonna have to cut more often. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

. I've had good luck with all the Landpride implements I've bought over the years. Only problem is LP has established a really good reputation and now their prices are above and beyond some of the other brands /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.

I sure timed everything right for a change. I aerated Wednesday night, spread triple-19 Thursday afternoon after work, and got one heck of a good rain Thursday night. I could almost see that bermuda run'n this morn'n /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. Only problem was the rain came with high winds and lots of lighting and blew my 6ft high corn rows down. Least it didn't get my tomaters

Has any one ever used an core aerator made by GPC Metal Products. They are about 1/2 the price of a landpride but are a totally different design. The spoons are welded to a drum whch can be filled with water. I would like to know how they work.
