Thanks for posting that. I find canals fascinating, probably from growing up in the Niagara region where there is no shortage of awe-inspiring hydro-electric projects.

Your daughter's photo at first glance, looked a lot like the Queenston-Chippewa Power Canal in Niagara Falls. It used to scare the heck out of me when I was a kid. I never liked crossing any bridge over it. It runs right through the city. You will never see any boats navigate it, at least not intentionally anyway!

I had never heard of the Corinth Canal before either. Sea-level canals are pretty rare, especially one that require cuts that deep. The Suez must have been easy by comparison - flat, low-lying the whole distance, and sand!
