I was just going through pictures my daughter took this summer. This is a picture of the Corinth Canal in Greece.

And here is some additional information, looks pretty cool to me.

Prokop, I was in Athens, Greece in the early '70s (US Navy) and took a tour that included a drive over the Corinth Canal. The approach to the bridge gave no clue of the sudden sheer drop as we passed over the canal. It was really a shock to see how far down the canal is.

I hope your daughter enjoyed her trip. The feeling of going over that canal is something I will never forget and I imagine it impressed her too.

Prokop,

Thanks for the picture and the link. I've never heard of it before and enjoy learning of things like this. I'm always impressed with what people have been able to accomplish and build on a large scale!!!!

Our tour bus stopped to show off the canal. As we went for a stroll, they warned us that the bridge was full of pickpockets. If you know they are there, why don't you get rid of them?

And here I live in Corinth (Corinth, TX, that is) and never hear of that canal. There's sure nothing similar around here. Very interesting picture and story.

Eddie,

I am with you, big projects always fascinated me - and it doesn't matter if it is recent or historical.

Not sure if you know this one, but here is a modern solution to the same problem.

Yes, Bird, there is something about the city names from Europe. Like we have Vienna in Virginia and real Vienna is bit different; also there is Praha in Texas too:D

Maybe you should plan a pilgrimage to the original Corinth:).

Prokop,

I saw an show on TV abou the Fakirk Wheel, but had forgotten it until seeing your link. Truly impressive. One thing that really jumped out at me while reading the link was that it's powered by a 30hp motor!!!

Prokop, if you are ever in Texas, you should plan on a trip to West, Texas. Not the western part of the state, but the town call "West" that is in central Texas near Waco. Totally confused? Here's a link to the Czech capitol of Texas.

West, Texas

It used to be that I didn't even know of anywhere to get kolaches except West, so every time we passed through there we stopped for kolaches. But now I know of several local places to get kolaches.
