It spreads fast because people travel world wide. Indiana had no cases until a guy returned from a conference in Boston. POOF... it traveled 800 miles in a day. :airplane:

Make that 2 cases. Another guy traveled to the same conference in Boston and is confirmed.

There are a few others confirmed and a few others suspected in Indiana as well.

Here in South Bend, a local private school has closed because one of it's staff members came in contact with a relative who has shown symptoms (not yet confirmed). That relative had been in contact with someone who has been confirmed. The staff member went to a local hospital to get tested, but the CDC stepped in at the last minute and blocked the test.

So the question then: Why would the CDC block anyone from getting tested?

Yeah, I'd like to see some concrete evidence/proof that CDC blocked a test? In my simple mind that makes no sense. Hopefully someone can explain that with no bias.

Just hoping current events are not the new normal...

Not many survivors from 1918 Spanish Flu but my neighbor was born in 1916 with the nearest settlement being Winamuuca Nevada. She said the isolation is what kept her branch of the family safe...

I've tried to find out why too. :confused3:
Can't find a good answer, but here's a few possibilities, effects:

- Perhaps not enough test kits. Although other countries that have tested 10's if not 100's of thousands.
- More testing would/might show it's a lot more widespread and common than we think. Would this panic or settle people?
- If more testing shows it's more widespread than believed, but less dangerous and has fatality rate common or lower than the flu, does everybody want the current hysteria to fade?

Not getting conspiracy here, but more testing would clear up these hard to get facts on it's spread and mortality.

The lack of test kits was the only logical answer I could think of?? I had also heard last week that more test kits were being procured?

Sounds like in the article Moss posted that the person was tested the following day.

Yeah, your first post of that article was why I asked the question. Nothing in that article gave an explanation. Unless somewhere I missed it?

They came in contact with someone who tested positive, but that was only 24 hours prior and they show no symptoms nor would the virus test be accurate after that short of time. Makes sense that they would not test that early.

Here's a more up-to-date story with emails sent by the head of the school to parents. It has more details as to why the staff member was denied testing, as, apparently, the relative was denied testing for a while as well. The testing will take about 3 days to get results back, so the school is staying closed until then at the least.

I told them at church yesterday I would see them at some later point in time. Going to a doctor's office really is questionable in my mind. At age 69 it is concerning.


We have a member at our church who is well into his 90s and still drives himself to church. But when the flu season starts he says he will see us in the spring. His kids gets the groceries for him.
