/ˈpanik/

noun: panic

sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinking behavior.

I have seen no signs of this or heard of any reports either...The same type of buying occurs every time a major (winter or tropical) storm approaches a region...prudent measures are NOT considered an act of panic...!

There certainly is panic going on. Just look at the cleared shelves in grocery stores, gun and ammunition sales, etc... That's called panic buying.

He didn't say riots. He said panic. It is panic. And he's correct.

Nope ... don't see it.

As Slash points out, when interruptions of normal daily life are anticipated, (smart) people take prudent measures to account for the anticipated disruption.

Now - stop adding to the hysteria by incorrectly categorizing something as something which it clearly isn't ...

We don't drink alot of milk but when I was at Costco Monday, wife said to get a 2 pack.. I figured one would go bad before we got to it, but wife froze it right away.. we don't like milk that has been frozen, but better than not having any for cooking/cereal/etc..

Yes, especially the ones that bought all the flour.
I would bet that 90% that got have no clue as to how to use it.
And several jugs of milk at one time, hope they like it when it turns on them.
The extreme closures are also over kill, I can't believe the ACLU hasn't been in court already over them.
If it had been the President doing these closures it would have been a _hit storm.

Milk freezes very nicely and keeps for months in the freezer. Just take a few cups out of the jug so it doesn't expand and blow the cap.

Hoarding is never prudent

Yeah ... but we're not talking about the dipwad who thought he was going to make a killing by cornering the market on Purell ...

6 responders have now been quarantined.

I can't understand that. Firefighters wouldn't enter a burning building without safety equipment. Why wouldn't 911 responders have safety equipment? How many people can you quarantine before there is no one left to go?

Chris

Beats me. But the article said the 6 had been quarantined. I agree, we are going to run out of responders pretty quick that way.

Goes back to what I said when this whole thing hit the fan: the high transmissibility of this virus is a really big deal.

Although not necessarily highly lethal to everyone, it is extremely infectious ...

All those people snatching everything from the shelves are just being prudent...

So are you telling me that the people that caused the past runs on ammo weren't being prudent ?

Say it ain't so !

Those who have been prepared are not in panic mode. Snowflakes don't last long as things heat up.

None of the people I know are panic stricken yet. Not even the younger people under 30 who are not prepared...most are not smart enough to panic yet. Some still in denial.

The real panic starts when we have 1000 dead a day and hospitals are overwhelmed. Current estimates range from 400k-2.2 million deaths in the US. So 1000 dead a day is to be expected. It will make headlines and headlines sell.

I have not heard of crowds jumping out of windows or throwing themselves off bridges or under trains etc...that is a sign of panic...not empty store shelves...!

Hoarding is never prudent

One mans prudent stockpiling of stuff is another mans hoarding.

I have enough ammunition and components for about 250k rounds of ammunition. I might be considered a hoarder. But I used to shoot 20k rounds a year so it is a matter of perspective. I have not purchased any ammunition (except for a few thousand .22's), powder, primers, bullets, casting lead, shot, wads, or cases for about 4 years.

Ya might wanna slide right on by on this one ... if you are prone to nervousness or anxiety or such ...

Not a good sign. The US #COVID19 death curve slope is heading upward (it had been more flat like South Korea until recently). And the US new case curve now steepens, crossing Italy's (less useful d/t testing issue). Graphs by @jburnmurdoch @FT Keep 👀 on the curves.
