I read that the average age of CV-19 deaths in Italy is 79.5 and most had high blood pressure.. I wonder if it was high blood pressure that was not being treated? I heard about the malaria drug that has some promise on the CV update from Feds this morning..

Regarding N95 masks, 3M is making 35million per month, but only 5million were approved for medical. The feds got that changed very recent and now the whole 35 million are available for medical use.. other companies are stepping up, heard GM might make ventilators at some of the auto plants.

RACGP - ACE-inhibitors, ARBs and COVID-19: What GPs need to know

I am starting to think some blood pressure meds make COVID-19 harder on the patient. The BP connection is real but the WHY is the question.

Wifey did the census thing online last night. No census taker coming to OUR house..:) She said it took about 6 minutes. Piece of cake.

Goes back to what I said when this whole thing hit the fan: the high transmissibility of this virus is a really big deal.

Although not necessarily highly lethal to everyone, it is extremely infectious ...

Yep posted in the 1st Coronavirus thread Feb 16

Ro was believed to be ~3 COVID 19
~1.8 Spanish Flu

Unfortunately the mathematical spread in countries that did not immediately test and quarantine is bearing out.

Think the wife would be mad if I panic bought a new tractor ...lol

That's not panic it's smart. Have you ever heard of anybody getting infected riding a tractor? I'm not panicked but I am a little concerned. I heard if things get bad enough they may restrict travel. I am kind of counting on being able to get to the farm to keep from going stir crazy at home.

All great and all but the FDA has already said they won't fast track anything without significant testing on dosage. Everything seems to be 6 months to 1.5 yrs out. Frankly, at the rate we're heading, that will be too late.

i posted the med cram vid in a couple threads concerning Chloroquine and Zinc, member asked his doctor about it and was given a prescrip.

Thanks for that info.Stopped by and talked to my Doc and he called in a scrip.Picked it up at CVS and they ordered the Zinc to take along with it.Pick it up tomorrow.

200 Mg twice a day with food. Read the cheat sheet-said could be taken I pill per week as a preventative measure. Have an appt with my cancer Doc Monday to go over compatibility issues with other meds I'm on. 10 pills...$10 plus tax.

it is widely available Cheap and there is a long history using it for Malaria so the side effects are well known

This is kind of silly...I'd guess most mail carriers/handlers will be wearing gloves as the bigger threat would come from infected persons that licked and sealed envelopes that hold letters/documents that had previously been in close proximity to possibly infected persons...

If you spray the outside of an envelope for protection from the mail carrier etc...what are you going to do with what's inside?

My father is a rural carrier. He's the longest serving rural carrier in the nation I believe (about 58 years). He told me the other day he was given masks and gloves during the 2009 swine flu pandemic. So far he hasn't been issued them this time around.

He plans to retire on his 60th year of employment at age 80.

I don't know if I am getting paranoid as I get older but I don't entirely trust the government with too much information. The regular form is OK i guess but one year we got the long form. That was way more information than I wanted to give the government.

Well, I hope he makes it.

Chloroquine.....what is it and side effects.

Chloroquine: MedlinePlus Drug Information
This medication may cause serious eye/vision problems. The risk for these side effects is increased with long-term use of this medication (over weeks to years) and with taking this medication in high doses. Get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of serious eye problems, including: severe vision changes (such as light flashes/streaks, difficulty reading, complete blindness).

I have not heard of crowds jumping out of windows or throwing themselves off bridges or under trains etc...that is a sign of panic...not empty store shelves...!

No that was the stock market crash, and subsequent "Great Depression".

I have the census form and was surprised that they demanded I complete it online. I wonder what they are doing with folks who don't have a pc?
I've never been told to go online by anyone.

Am glad they are increasing capacity to manufacture safety equipment. In the beginning someone quoted we had 150K respirators and we needed a million.
That's a mighty big gap, manufacturing trying to catch up with demand.

What is the attraction of zinc? some kind of immunity booster?

Is the need from FEAR or SURVIVAL? Pretty big gray area depending how a person thinks.

The need to prepare is driven by both fear and survival...at least for me. Why not be prepared? Neve saw the downside to thinking that way. I am not one of those nut cases on TV with a ten year cache of food in the middle of the desert.

My fiancé's biggest concern this morning over coffee was that she was getting bored. She is much more social than I. She has no worries about food, being able to protect ourselves, a source of water, heat, power, fuel, shelter...or TP...LOL.

She is 12 years younger and is worried that I am at a higher risk but the only thing we can do is limit exposure...the rest is in God's hands. We talked about a couple we know from church that seems to be taking more risks than they should. We were going to invite them for dinner but decided it was not a good idea. The husband works for FedEx so he is getting a lot of exposure. So fear is affecting us....or maybe it is being prudent....

If we had a million ventilators, who would man them? People are knee-jerking this a bit. More important IMHO to ramp up production of masks to limit exposure than fight the virus once it is spread. Same with gloves and hand sanitizer. Simple and effective measures we can put in place quickly. Masks are easy to make compared to a ventilator and cheap. YouTube videos of how to use them correctly. This is not rocket surgery.

We need to accept a LOT of people are going to die. Not everyone can be saved. The issue becomes. do a LOT die or a **** OF A LOT?

I have not received such . . . I've already done what our government demanded . . . ;)
