No offense but that German toilet paper is like sand paper.

I don’t mind the rough paper, it’s the wax paper style that I could never get used to. I forget which countries use that type. Useless!

I saw the images of long lines outside gunshops in the US, presumably looking for something for self defence when/if the SHTF(?)

Well, I thought you might find this announcement from Australia interesting.

My state government of Victoria has announced that there has been an increase in gun sales here.
As a result they have banned all sales of guns and ammo until further notice. "In the interests of public safety"

This is a copy of the official notice to firearms dealers.

Notice of Variation - Signed - 30.03.2020.jpeg

Some explanations:
The "Premier" is basically the same as a state Governor.
A "Permit to Aquire" is the paperwork you have to get so you can buy a particular firearm, after a cooling off period.
I would guess that 95% of gun owners would fall into one or more of the official "reasons" why you have a firearm. Note that having (or using) a firearm for self defence is prohibited.

I, and fellow shooting club members I have spoken to, think this is a pretty dumb reaction. I don't think anyone desperately wanting a gun for protection, or to go and threaten someone, is going to bother going through the legal process.

Interesting question but unfortunately no...you don't have any antibodies at all for about almost a week or so after initial infection. The body then generates IgM antibody and later, about 2-3 weeks after infection, we generate IgG antibody. The antibodies that can be harvested from recovered patients are IgG antibodies. There are some viral diseases where those convalescent antibodies are quite effective in preventing or even treating bad viral infections. You may recall thirty years ago we used to get "gammaglobulin" shots before going overseas where there might be exposure to hepatitis. Same thing.

So how much bleach to water do you mix to kill the virus?

I am profoundly embarrassed by the extreme level of cowardice displayed by Americans. It's absolutely shameful.
Meanwhile, in Belarus, "It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees". "The tractor will heal everyone, the fields heal everyone"

One country is refusing to shut down to stop the coronavirus One country is refusing to shut down to stop the coronavirus

MOSCOW While officials from Montreal to Moscow have placed populations under some form of lockdown designed to slow the spread of the coronavirus, one man continues to hold firm to the notion that the rest of the world has lost its mind: Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

It is better to die on your feet than live on your knees! Lukashenko told a Belarusian television reporter Saturday when asked whether the coronavirus could stop him from hitting the rink for a propaganda-filled hockey game.

Meanwhile, he has made a point of keeping factories, stores, cultural and sporting events open. The Belarusian Health Ministry has reported just 152 cases of the coronavirus. Neighboring Russia reported 1,836 as of Monday.

Two weeks ago, he insisted that Belarus has survived worse than the novel pandemic hitting the world. Saunas, vodka and tending to the fields were the best remedy for those who fear the spread of the virus, he said.

The tractor will heal everyone, he said, the fields heal everyone.

Perhaps ...

OTOH, the economy represents the ongoing efforts to service and meet the necessities of life for Americans, and probably to a lesser extent, their wants (not actually needed, just desired) ... and it will be interesting to see HOW it transforms itself to do that.

There are several addresses in my general area where the GPS powers that be think lie at my doorstep for some reason or another.

Today a guy in a van shows up looking for one of them (happens fairly regularly)

Turns out he was trying to deliver a food order ... from a small local fresh fruit/vegetable/deli market ...

I doubt that service existed to any real extent 2 months ago ... but I suspect business may be booming now.

My point was that there is not one thing the average citizen can do about it...In the same respect that economy is faltering and the majority of the news is negative...it will sooner or later reverse itself and the negative stories will turn to positive...so why bother disseminating the negative?

My State wasn't there.

(Sorry, just a gentle reminder that this is an international/global website :))

-----------------------------------

Tassie (or the Australian State of Tasmania) unfortunately had its second COVID-19 death today. A man in his 80s who was a returned passenger from the cruise ship RUBY PRINCESS. This brings Australia's death toll up to 19. There are currently 69 cases in my State.

I'll be going into town tomorrow for my weekly mail/pharmaceuticals/petrol/groceries. I still don't need any TP, but I'll certainly have a look. ;)

Which state is Australia in? :D

We cannot piss them off until we are ready to produce the items we need. Why do you think Trump is playing nice....for now?

And if we send a bill they will not pay it anyway.
This pandemic is a game changer...watch and see...!

Thanks Doc...I knew it sounded too easy...

...Those gammaglobulin shots hurt like heck and would leave a sore cheek for a few days...!

Especially if you got on a C17 or even a 131 to travel to those exotic places the next morning.
