FWIW: On both my small Yanmar clone and on my Deutz, the dipstick is supposed to be screwed in all the way.
YMMV...

Thanks Winston! That's the closest we'll ever see regarding the engine dipstick.Out of the 195/240 original operational manual.
(For the transmission) "Insert dipstick to rest on threads, but do not screw it in."
For engine oil .... nothing declared.
Scotty, I have personally changed over a hundred + power shift tranny fluids from Japanese Yanmars, fresh out of the shipping containers
It seems that they always use automatic transmission fluid on their FX models,
Do they know something we dont?
Yanmar TF500A is dyed red, yet it's J20C.Probably it is the other way around. Or maybe they don't read their own manuals. I have no idea what they are thinking.
BTW, how do you know that what you are seeing is automatic transmission fluid?
Any chance it could it be trans/hydraulic fluid with a red dye? That's commonly done by tractor techs here.
Maybe they do the same thing for the same reason.

I spoke with the supplier in japan and that's what he said they use all the time.
The tractors over there are in the watery mud and ATF is full of detergent, so it keeps everything clean inside.
I have used ATF since 1995 in my Yanmars and absolutely no problems.
