If a dealer doesn't want my business during the purchase and then doesn't want it after the sale for service, fine, I'll get the message. But if it's warranty work and he 'refuses' to do it, well, I live for stuff like that.... ;)
Regardless, why should he be mad at the customer because the customer chose to save thousands of dollars?!?! Yeah, the nerve of some customers.
I'm not going to nickel and dime anyone, but on a discretionary, actually, recreational purchase, over $2,000 is a LOT of money to me (especially on a sub $15k purchase).

I purchased my TC 30 9x3 from Corriher's neighbor Tar Heel Tractor (you can find them on E-Bay) in Jun 2004. I also shopped Corriher as well as my two local NH dealers and the local red, orange, purple, and green dealers. Tar Heel gave me the best package deal saving me, even after I made the trip to NC to pick everything up, about $2K on a tractor that, IMHO, far exceeds what the other guys offer at this price point.

So far, I haven't had a need to take my rig in for repairs and I have done all services myself (although the 300 hour service was more challenging then I anticipated) so no conflicts with my local dealer. I have purchased filters from my local deal and they asked where I bought my rig. In a nutshell, their response was positive and aimed at turning me in to a repeat customer.

As for the tax issue, I contacted the VA tax folks and the answer I got was, unlike a car, I did not owe the state or county any tax on my purchase -- tractors falling into a "special" category.

If I needed another tractor I would not hesitate to shop around and buy from the dealer who offered me the best bang for my hard earned buck. Dealers like Corriher and Tar Heel who take the Wal-Mart approach to their business "get it" in my opinion, and dealers who stick with the Sear's approach will eventually follow Sear's (and K-Mart) into oblivion.

I did get a price from them which was very good. I did a lot of shopping and low and behold a brand new New Holland dealer open shop in my town a week and a half ago and did a little better then the dealer you are talking about on the price. Also no sales tax in Florida if you use the tractor for agricultural purposes. I was able to keep my business local and helped the new dealer out. I purchased the second tractor that he sold since opening shop. The TC30 will be delivered tomorrow.

Well if a BRAND NEW DEALER can beat their price I guess that just proves what others are suggesting doesn't it?
What city in Florida is the dealer?
Thanks for the info.

Phil, the dealer is CenterState Tractor Sales located in Brooksville, FL, phone number 352-544-2424. Bruce Wilson is the fellow that I dealt with; I should be taking delivery of my TC 30 today. Good person to deal with.

Most people on this list do not make a living with their machines so perhaps they can afford to buy from a limited service dealer like Corriher. The local dealer has to maintain a full service & parts department as well as mobile service capability. This all cost money. Corriher doesn't have to support much of anything. If one of my tractors break, I can have it picked up and at my dealers shop with in a couple of hours. Buy a tractor from Corriher and see it your local dealer will perform warranty service on it.

Andy

Andy there's two sides to this issue.

You and I both had a bad experience with the same dealership. When I had the battery problem I was the one that did the fix, then argued with NH for reimbursement. My dealer turned a deaf ear and pretended like I was making up the whole problem.

So no, I don't take my tractor back to the same dealer as I bought it from anyway. And if you can save a thousand or two on the purchase price of the tractor, that goes a long way on service should you actually need to buy some locally.

If I had it to do over again I would buy from Corriher in a heart-beat, no joke.

Mike, you've got the wrong Andy there... You're thinking you're replying to something I said, but the post you are referencing was from AndyMA!

I agree with you that I would not buy again from the dealers we purchased our tractors from. However, I could have gotten close to Corriher's price from the dealers where I currently do my business. Even though they were I little bit more, I would glad pay slightly more to maintain a relationship with the local guy... However, maybe next time I will pick the correct local guy the first time around!
