Cost of 2320 50 Hr Service !!!

My service with Padula Brothers came out to be about $350. The breakdown was $80 for parts, $135 for labor, and $120 for them to drive out to my place. Looking at the invoice, though, they only charged me for 3 quarts of oil and I don't see the hydro fluid (which they did change) so maybe I was undercharged. The best part is the guy they sent out was pretty nice and essentially taught me how to do it myself - $255 for a DIY training course on a major service is a bargain in my book.

FWIW the 50 hour service on my (wife's) 2305 was ... $262.76 -- on site (MowNGo).

J :D

Failed to change hydraulic fluid / clean suction screen; picked up next day for suction screen to be cleaned. No charge for pickup/delivery, service on tranny.

That's service! Tried to pay them for it; wouldn't let me do it, it was supposed to be done and wasn't so they ate it.

Go figure!

P.S. Side note: When I bought my (wife's) tiller, it was delivered -- placed in the driveway. No knock on the door; no phone call -- walked outside after five o'clock and tiller just sitting there bright and shiny. The next day the serviceman / delivery person was sent back out to the farm house to make sure I understood how to operate / connect the tiller, and make sure the PTO shaft was correct length, etc. Go figure, you would think the money was enough .... I'm impressed!

Thank you so much guys for all the quick feedback. So it looks like my initial thoughts were right on the price is on the high side.

My wife has a cousin that used to own a 2320 and she said he can probably come over and work with me to do my first one. So I will give him a call.

I am also going to call the sales rep and let him know what his service dept is charging. He is been really good with me and maybe they have "different prices" depending on who you are.

I will also call Padula Brothers to see what their current prices are.

tomd999 : I live in Plainville MA....(I am 1 mile from RI Boarder)...so I am pretty far from NH. But thank you much for the offer to help out :):)

Again, thanks guy for all the great feedback!! :D

By the way, if you do DIY the service I'd recommend the JD fluids and filters - pricing isn't that bad (at most dealers) and it saves you the headache of trying to make sure you've got a compatible fluid.

Hello Bill,

I also own a 2320 and I did my own service back in May of last year. Not all that difficult if you like to tinker with things. I forget the exact cost of all the materials but if you PM me with your email I can send you a write up of the work I did and the cost of the materials. As a suggestion if you do your own maintenance keep a document and receipts of the work you do just in case you have any warranty issues that may come up in the future.

Did my own 50 Hour service on my 2320 in July. All filters & fluids cost $113 from the local JD dealer. Since the instrcutions in the manual are not very clear, it took a long time. Next time it will be much easier.

Just had the dealer do the 50(at 61 actual hours) hour service on my 2320. I didn't have time and could see it being one of those projects that "should" just be so easy. They charged me about 250 bucks(delivery/pick-up was free, they were running a special) and accidentally left a real nice clevis hitch in the draw bar.:D

Do it yourself. The bottom filter with the magnets is sort of a PIA, but isn't all that hard. Seems there's a thread on here somewhere with pics and everything concerning that filter. The JD owner's manual (at least mine) did not give the filter number for the side filter and had to go back an get it. Don't have the number here at the office or I would give it to you.

The other PIA to me is trying to see the fluid in that idiot glass on the back. Seems like there's a thread on here about that also.

Not much help am I but the service is a doable deal.

I don't know how to link the thread but thatguy started a thread on June 21, 2008 called
My 2320 Hydraulic transmission oil change thoughts.

Pretty good thread about the sight glass.
