Cost of cutting edge

Need a bolt on cutting edge for 17LA 72" bucket. Anyone know if the New Holland edge is better than other brands? Holes are already in bucket. Cost I can expect to pay. Called local dealer... said $298. Any ideas?

I don't think the NH cutter bar is necessarily any better or worse than any other cutting edge, but it is made for your bucket and the pre-drilled holes will fit exactly. It's also reversible with two cutting edges. Make sure you get plow-bolts included with the bar.

Now the bad news. I paid less than $200 for mine in 2001. It seems the price has gone up 50% in just 5 years. I think that's too much.

EDIT: I just searched for my original post about my cutter bar and found that I paid $175 for the entire setup with 1/2" bolts for installation. I just don't think the price of steel has gone up that much.

Jinman is correct. The cutting edge has a unique hole spacing. The spacing will be different than Deere's or Kubota's. Why are the edges unique? Guess where you have to go for parts?

You may wish to check with your CaseIH dealer to see what the price of a replacement edge would be for a CaseIH LX116 loader. Likely, the price will be identical. Steel in general has skyrocketed in the last several years.

The New Holland edge should be of the same quality as any other brand. Most of the large equipment companies are buying the edge from one of only a couple of suppliers.

Well, I checked 3 dealers around me and they were all the same price. So, really have no choice as I don't want to ruin the bucket edge on my next project that will include taking out old black top. Thanks for your help.

Mine was $299.36 including tax for a 72 inch bar.

That's what I figured - dealer item. Gotta bite the bullit and get one soon before I do any real damage to the bucket.

Slippy, you should consider a bolt on tooth bar to go over your cutting edge. You mention removing old blacktop as a first project and a toothbar will bite into that stuff easily helping to break it up, get underneath it, and slice it into the bucket saving a great deal of wear on your FEL. You can remove the toothbar when you want to make a flat slice as in snow off your new blacktop. I find I just leave mine on all year since there isn't much snow, but plenty of logs and rocks to haul. The teeth provide some pretty significant increases in carry capacity for bulky stuff like brush and split wood too. They also provide lots of convenient attachment points for rope or chain when securing stuff in the bucket.

Would have to be a custom made tooth bar. I was told by my dealer there wasn't one for the 72 inch bucket. If my dealer may have been wrong and there is one could someone provide the part number.

I got my toothbar in '03 with the 72" bucket and the bolt on cutting edge from the NH dealer as part of the tractor purchase package. I'll check on the manufacturer and get back but they're not rare or anything.
