I'm in the process of getting my truck re-painted, the guy is going to do it for $2k. I had three other quotes that were higher, really none that were lower save for the cheap $600 quick and dirty paint jobs.

He's going to remove some trim, but not all, will take about 2 weeks to do the job. I saw some of his work and was reasonably impressed with it. It only has three very small dings in the body, and virtually no rust. Reason I wanted a new paint job was because the clearcoat had peeled off both front fenders (typical for 2000 Ford F150's). Does $2k sound about right to sand, prime, paint, and clearcoat with good paint?

Will post pic's after it's done, if there is interest.

2K for an overall (I'm assuming he's painting the whole truck) is a good deal if he's using quality materials, and does a solid prep (wet sand everythng that is getting painted). Base/Clear and sealer.

Ask what brand he's using. PPG or DuPont anything in that venue is premium stuff. Omnicoat or some kind of acrylic "animal" won't give you a professional look.

I've been doing this for years as a side gig. To use good materials (Chemicles and misc) on a solid vehicle can get close to $1,000 depending on the color...And WOW does that matter.

Personally, I prefer PPG BC/CC.

2 weeks!?!?!

"some guy"

sounds like your about to get a $600 paint job for $2K

if paying 2K take it to a real shop and have it done in 3days....

if its a farm truck pay $400 for maco

2K is a decent price if he does good work. You mentioned you have seen some of his work and were impressed. 2 weeks does seem like a long time though. Must be a private individual since you wouldn't get a decent basecoat / clearcoat paint job in any body shop around my neck of the woods.

Agreed. 2 weeks for a normal overall is not unrealistic at all. That was my normal time frame for regular cars and trucks. I'd take him up on that deal.

2K is a good deal, I recently had a drag car painted and that was what I paid. Ken Sweet

$2K is good for the paintjob. But why spend $2K on a 2000 model truck? That must be a huge chunk of the trucks value.

If the truck is in good overall condition and just the paint is poor the 2K will be money well spent. What does a new F150 cost? 2K would probably be 3 payments on a new ride. I like the way the OP is thinking!

to each there own..... 2k on paint on a year 2000? no way.... 2k on a new trans or engine perhaps....

how long do you expect to keep it? $500 paint job should last 3-5 years.... who needs a 20 year 2K paint job on a 2000 year DD truck.

If you want it go for it, (your $$) but again i wouldn't wait 2 weeks for it to get done.

If 2k allows the owner to get another five years out of a truck that meets his needs why not. I spent $1000 fixing several things on a 93 F150 over the summer and its only a hunting truck. It keeps my new truck out of the woods and mud and I don't have to unload all my hunting gear to go to work and gives the family a third vehicle for those times when you wake up to a dead battery or flat tire. I am sure the op has a reason to keep the truck in good order.
