Cougars and Coyotes and Wolves OH MY!

That is exactly what Happened. that wasn't the first time that bear was chasing my horse. It was just the first time that I was ready for it !!!
The Dept of Natural Resources ( DNR ) wanted to hang me for it. they tried to make an example out of me. They would have much rather i just let my horse die. It didn't work out for them however. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

AKFish, I think we are mostly on the same page, but I think you are missing the bigger picture. I am fine with the coyotes as long as they stick to their rabbits and whatnot. Cougars? Man you won't even know that a tom cougar is around because they have HUGE hunting ranges, and they'll drop you from above.

I won't share my close-in land with cougars. They keep a wide berth and we're happy.

I fully support doing what we've got to do to protect what is ours. I will kill anything I think is trying to kill my son, my wife, my dogs law or no.

I guess what I am getting at here is:
* You (or your son)won't have much fish, elk, deer to kill because the predators will have crushed their populations.

* You will eventually have a LOT of hungry and desperate predators that cause a lot of pain for all concerned when that happens.

* The uber-environmentalist-nazis that think there should be no caps on wolves, cougars, etc. won't be singing that tune for much longer.

* What was never a threat to you for all the years you've been alive, may soon be one - and a threat ignored blossoms.

* There should be places that are safe havens for wildlife, but not private land. If you have a pedator killing your animals you should LEGALLY be allowed to kill that specific predator (most people do it anyway and they shouldn't be called crooks)

I just thought the article explained why we have all these predators lately. Lots of people don't even believe there are coyotes in the suburbs around here, but I've seen em in the early morning hunting for little foo-foo.

Coyotes are a regular sight (sound) on our place in East Texas. I've only seen one Cougar in over 30 years, and most folks deny their presence/existence in our area...but they are around. I think its just a matter of time before seeing the black bear return to our area.

I raise cattle and have never lost one head to predators. Hence, I have no problem sharing space with them. The wild calls of the Coyote at night are actually inspiring and make me think of what it must have been like 100 or 200 years ago in this great country.

However, if it ever came down to Coyote (or any other predator) vs pets, cows, or people, I would not hesitate nor feel the least guilt in taking care of business. We humans are at the top of the food chain and shouldn't be afraid to act that way when conditions warrant, IMO.
