Couldn\'t pass it up

I need a third tractor like I need another nostril, but I couldn't pass it up for $50. I picked up a 1976 Gravely 812 w/50" deck last weekend from friend. Actually, my daughter spotted it in a shed at one of her friends houses and managed to put me in touch with her friends father. The kicker is she's only 8 years old. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Couldn\'t pass it up

The 12 HP Kohler K301s will likely need a rebuild. I have about $40 worth of tune-up and service parts on the way so I'll know soon enough.

Re: Couldn\'t pass it up

Funny how things work. When I was looking for a Gravely 4-wheeler, I couldn't find anything but $3,000 restored tractors. I bought a 1979 8183-T for about $700 and three months later this one turns up right under my nose. I made the guy take $50. He just wanted it out of his way. Because he's a family friend I had to give him something. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Couldn\'t pass it up

Just make sure your daughter knows what you are in to, and hope she takes enough interest to let you know when she spots something. My girl loves to scurry around the shop for tools when I need them. Kind of handy, even though she'll occasionally bring a filter wrench when I need pliers or channel locks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks like 50 dollars very well spent. Your daughter should be in for a finders fee, ice cream cone, or breakfast with dad. Those old tractors last forever if you don't mind "wrenchin" a bit.

Enjoy

Re: Couldn\'t pass it up

I am already getting her pointed in the right direction. I will carry her to the garage and take her to my Gravelys on the floor, and point out parts for her. Also I bring her over to our old Mustang the we are restoring and show her it, and let her tuch it. Oh shes only 8 months old. Got to start them on the right path when there young. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That is quite a buy you got there, I'm sure you'll have a good time restoring it and rebuilding /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I'm impressed to hear you got your daughter involved with helping "Dad" too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I raised two daughters and am now a grandpa to three granddaughters and first thing I do when they get old enough is take them a ride on Grandpa's john deere /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Good luck with the new project and have fun /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Couldn\'t pass it up

Looks like you got quite a deal, they are one well built machine. I have a model 430 gravely that I have had for 26 years with very little trouble and it has been used pretty hard.
