Just thought I'd share the Country Carpenters website with everyone. I've been cruising this site for designs and ideas for a while. These don't necessarily have to be post & beam, either. They're just very nice, classic designs, and there are a lot of pictures of finished work under the individual design classes.

Enjoy

You are very welcome, Bob. They're kinda close in CT, aren't they (compared to West Virginia or Arizona)? We'll be looking to convert our 24'x24' garage into something like the 1-1/2 story designs soon. We want a wood and fixit type shop upstairs (although I'm being advised a second floor shop might be troublesome), and since the garage is 9' from the house, we'd like to tie it over with a heated breezeway at kitchen floor level. I'm also daydreaming about a second floor on the breezeway, for a little hobby shop, with a little door into the bedroom.

Hey, Kent, looks like I'm chasing you around answering your posts - cool.

My wife also likes this site - it has great pix in natural settings. I'd love to do the post n' beam thing. One way to get the "look" would be to use heavy rough lumber as beams and posts on the first floor.

I'll be getting some before pictures of the garage, and most likely a running project report here for my new TBN "family". Might do the thing this Summer or Fall; we're currently re-siding the house and making repairs to the daylight basement wall (North side - rot).

Or vice-versa. I'm not sure. One thing for sure we have some of the same ideas, and opinions. I think being in agreement most times can be a good thing.
My wife was not too impressed with a traditional Garage Design, so we start looking around. She really like the carriage house idea. I found a pile of sites to look at already, but somehow I missed this one. Thanks for showing it off. One more to decide on when we are ready. Good Luck Kent
