hobie,

I went with Scag. I liked the CC when I first looked at it, and it has allot of features that I liked, especially the flip up deck. When compairing it to other home owner rated machines, it looked like a winner. The mowers at the box stores just didn't come close. But the more I looked, the more I was drawn to the the commercial rated mowers. The Scag impressed me more then the others.

Eddie, I almost got a scag, but it was really too big for getting into some areas. It was also mmore $. I got the Jazee1 which is on the low end of residential mowers at $3,300.00. At first I regretted it. I'm a little slow learning how to operate new things, but after a few mows, I am in love with it. Especially the joy stick. If I ever needed a commercial mower, I'd get a Charger, or a Boss from CC because I like the joy stick so much. I think you were wise to upgrade for your use. I suspect with that beautiful place you have, you'll be expanding your lawn. Have you found it as fun to mow with as I have? The one thing I notice, is that I can't mow in under the cedars, the way I did with the old Tough Cut walk behind so now I'm doing more weed wacking. Anyway I hope you really enjoy it, and that it serves you well. I want more pics... One other note, I tell my nephews, they can't drive it without a lesson first, and then they have to pay me to mow the lawn. No takers yet! All the best, Brian

Yes, it's made mowing allot more fun. I love the way it looks and how it handles. I'm able to mow areas that I wasn't able to, and the results have proven to be amazing!!!!!!

Eddie, It is plain to see you take pleasure in your work, and that doing things right is in your nature. You have a great sense of vision for your projects, and the ability to realize them. I spent 5 years in art school, and we'd call you an artist! I too am having fun, in my case reclaiming areas the hired guys let grow. I think I must've misssed it in your posts, where did you get the name Maribou from? From the pics I'd say you've created a little paradise to raise a family in. All the best, Brian

Thanks Brian,

Lake Marabou was based on a wildlife theme that I'm working on for the RV Park. I want to base my designs on nature and exotic places around the world. I took out one of my boos on African Wildlife and just said different names out loud until I found one that had a nice sound to it.

The Marabou is an African Stork with a pleasant sounding name.

I should have remembered the storks! A brother of mine had some good pics from a safari he went on. Amazing looking creatures. They seem sort of prehistoric to me, yet I really like them... Not as pretty as their name though! It does have a nice sound to it, and it evokes the wild and exotic. Good choice! Brian

Instead of starting a new thread, I will piggy back this old one. I just looked at a Country Clipper yesterday, a Boss 27 hp with 60". Commercial. They want to sell it at cost because no one is interested in a mower that expensive. $6200. What do you think all? I'm not in a position to buy it, but can't pass up an outstanding deal. My savings will take a hit, but with our new property, this thing would be great for the finished portions.

That's got to be at least $2k below retail, if not $2.5k. I wish I was in a position to snap it up.

When I was last looking, I liked Country Clipper, but didn't have a warm fuzzy from the dealer (primarily a motorcycle/atc dealer; they were new to the mowers and not too interested in actively selling any other than what they had in stock).

I really liked some of the features on the Country Clipper, but after comparing other models, I lost interest in them pretty quickly. I think there is probably a pretty good reason that they are dumping it as a huge discount. Either nobody wants them, or the company is in trouble. Either way, I would go into buying one with allot of red flags going up and the expecation that for the discount, there will be issues down the line.

I also think that every manufacturer is taking a hit with the direction that the economy is going, and every indication is it's just going to get worse, some manufacturers are still doing well, while others are struggling. This is when you find out who the good ones are from the bad ones. Who builds a quality product and supports their customers and who cuts corners and doesn't care about what they build.

I'm seeing this in the housing market, with builders, remodelers and suppliers. The flakes are going out of buisness and those with the good reputations are going along like normal.

Good luck,
Eddie
