I'm looking for a new post hole auger for my Boomer 1030. Has anyone used a CountryLine auger from Tractor Supply on a small compact tractor such as a BX Kubota or Boomer 1030? I have a chance to buy a used Danuser G20/40 but I was told it wouldn't work on my tractor so I'm looking at the TS unit. This unit is made by Speeco so if anyone has experience with either one please respond. What augers are the folks here using for this application and how do you like them? I'm going to be using a 12" and 18" bit for my needs. Thanks as always Mark

I have the TSC Speeco...now sold as County Line.
Works great but I have sandy soil....18" on a SCUT? Hmmm...might be pushing it in rocky or clay soil:eek:

Not that it means much but I think the county line gearbox is only rated for a 9" auger bit. They are considered light duty.

That being said, I use a 12" very often with success. I do by know if an 18" wouk be ideal, even on a larger tractor.

PHD's turn at low PTO speed anyway. If it encounters an obstruction in the hole, the shear bolt breaks. Your issue will be if the auger (in the raised position) will clear the ground.

I've been using the same old PHD (a TSC model from 20 years ago) on at least 10 different tractors from 30 PTO to 105 PTO. Replaced numerous cutting edges and a few augers, I wear the flighting out.

I always idle the tractor when digging holes no matter what size of engine. Slow is more control anyway.

Mine hangs in a tree when not in use.

I have found a friend of mine has a Danuser G20/40 he will sell me that comes with two augers 12" and 18" for about $250. I hope it will work on my tractor Boomer 1030. What do you folks think?

Thats a great deal IMHO !
Danuser is one of the best PHD made.

The augers alone are worth way more than that.Jump all over it,quit thinking about it !

I have a B7800 and not a BX. My full sized PHD will barely fit my lower lift arms on the three point (width of PHD mount) and when I raise the PHD all the way up I have about 12" clearance over the ground. These are things that you may want to check first. An 18" auger would be pushing things. I would rent an 18" auger and try one before buying one.

If that deal was closer to me I would jump on it, what a steal! As long as it works anyway...

I've been using a Speeco PHD from Tractor Supply for nearly 10 years now. We use it exclusively on our BX because it is so handy to transport and get into tight places. As it came from the store, the thing had 3 holes in the boom for adjusting the height, none of which fit the cozy 3pt geometry on the BX. We added a 4th hole which allowed it to fit and gave a good range of motion on the little BX and we haven't looked back. The BX has all the power we need and will sink the auger to its full depth.

The only drawbacks I can think of are,
A) In rocky soil, I could see how a PHD could toss a small tractor around.
B) You want the PHD to be plumb and the lower 3pt arm turnbuckles to be tight so the hole is drilled vertically. Those turnbuckles are sure inconvenient!
C) Related to B), the tight 3pt geometry means you have to walk the tractor a bit - forward I think... it has been a while since I last used it - to keep it vertical as the auger sinks into the ground.
