Hey Soundguy,...sorry I should have mentioned this before but "seriously" an open wound like that,..if you pour white granulated sugar right into the wound, it will kill germs, become an antibiotic and heal up in no time. That is from my own personal experience, numerous times. Honey will do the same. Just change the dressing often and you'll be amazed!!

I have an old First Nations elder, friend who taught me that many years ago and believe me it works!

Just so the sugar doesn't pour all over the floor,...mix it with a tiny bit of Betadine (a few drops only) and stir it into a paste, then apply it and cover with a bandage.

The best to you,
. . tug

PS: Eddie,...talk about precision working machines,...up here in winter the snow plows gang up on the multi-lane highways,...8 or 10 trucks, one behind the other slightly offset to overlap the others windrow ,...all moving at speed and snow just-a-flyin,..quite a sight!! But especially at night like a row of moving Christmas trees ha, ha!

Ah, another excellent use for white granulated sugar. And here I thought it was only good as a sweetener and to cure hiccups (one heaping teaspoon of granulated sugar swallowed straight-no water-works for me all the time).

Doctor says to the diabetic patient, "I'm sorry but we have to amputate; your leg is gangrenous." Patient says, "Sorry, Doc, I'm not accepting that." To the doctor's shock, the patient checks himself out of the hospital AMA (against medical advice); checks into a wound clinic, first thing the doctor does is pack the wound with -- you guessed it -- "sugar"!

Former patient goes to the previous doctor and shows him he's still got his leg and walking on it.

Point: No wonder diabetic patients have wound healing issues, infections; strange that sugar would help / heal wounds. Centuries ago, across the pond in England, it was the first thing a "doctor" would do after cleaning the wound: pack the wound with sugar.

We've lost our medical wisdom!

Our dishwasher broke and we have to manually wash dishes until we buy a new one (I'll survive, I suppose) and my wife has a habit of tossing her very, very sharp kitchen knives into the soapy water for me to find.

Hope you heal up well. :)

Coming along good. Banged it accidentally tonight trying to open a drink mix package. smarted a bit.. but no more blood came out so I'm counting that as a good sign!

Well sure,...I didn't really expect to be believed on the sugar thing, but I know for positive that it works, have many personal experiences. Sugar works fast and extremely well as does honey, (the purest thing you can put on a wound). As for the Diabetic,...NO worries there,...sugar is NOT absorbed into the body from the skin or open flesh.

But hey, . . . don't take my word, nor the age old word of my (redskin) Indian friend, look it up on Google,..go ahead,..I dare yuh!! . . . sugar is an age old remedy. When I told my doctor that it was sugar that healed a wound he'd been working almost a year, . . . he confided in me that the Medical Profession does NOT allow doctors to recommend sugar or honey because the Pharmaceutical companies don't make money from it. He also told me it was at least a 4000 year old remedy still used openly in English surgery.

BUT,...outlawed by the US Drug companies because it works AND its "FREE"!! I keep a small pill bottle full of sugar, (and one of honey) in the medicine cabinet,...and always a bottle of sugar in my first aid kit when out on the tractor, with things like the chainsaw etc,...sugar is the first thing I reach for, for an open wound. You don't need to swallow antibiotics for the next week either!!

Moss: good one, keep your thimble handy old girl!
JGY : WELCOME ABOARD Sir,...also never a truer word than your "leg" story,..for sure!!

BUT,..BUT,..But,....HOW the heck did we get from careless tractor operation to open wounds and simple cures?????? Sorry Soundguy, just tried to help (in my sweetest way).

I'm like Eddy, I've seen many mowing crews in the area and working along I-20. They mow slopes that I would be hesitant to drive my Gator on, much less a tractor. There's always a few tractors broke down and none of the tractors are free of damage. Saw one today that had jackknifed into a low, wet spot and was at a very steep angle. Most of the batwing mower drivelines are bent from hitting objects.

Hey,..if you don't have a personal (monetary) interest in it,...and you might be asigned a different one tomorrow,....I suppose that adds to the "who cares" type attitude huh ?

Its when you got either a life savings or a hefty mortgage etc on the machine, that you are a little more careful,....and even with belt and ROPS, you really don't "want" to chance a roll-over down that bank,...or even a scratch from those branches.

No,... seems most company vehicles get the rough treatment.

You can generally tell the ones that still have payments due,....OR,..your "job" depends on "that" machine! No machine, no job, ..NO paycheck!! Just wonderin' how maintenance costs would be if the Highway Dept (and others) would take that attitude with employees??? OK, okay, . . go easy,..twas just a thought,..that's all!! (Been there, done that)

soundguy

I have your silver lining for you...

"Honey, since I've got this bum hand now, I've got to go to the range and practice off-hand shooting."

Sweet, huh? I may try that.:D
