Marine Tex, epoxy resin, adhesives, silicone grease, engine treatment, cleaner, repair, bond, fill, seal, fiberglass, aluminum, plastics, Starboard, wood

Should mention that this is assuming that the thing is indeed made of fiberglass as mentioned above. If it's some other kind of plastic, you would have be sure it's compatible with the substance with which you repair it.. Oh, should also have mentioned that fiberglass is actually plastic.. the fiberglass is just reinforcement and the resin (polyester) is what it's made of.. they call it fiberglass because nobody wants to hear that their $60,000 hole in the water you throw money into is a "plastic" boat. Polyester resin is used for building, but epoxy is stronger for repairs and sticks better.

Actually, there is a partial error in one of my posts above. Fiberglas mat comes in two types: One is woven and basically a heavier version of cloth and that type is obviously stronger than the woven cloth. There is also, or used to be "mat" that was just a jumbled mass of glass fiber, like a felt.. that is not as strong.

The plastic fender on my TC45A cracked and I repaired it will Fusor adhesive. I put in a small metal patch behind the fender(tire side)and glued it in place with the Fusor-stopped the cracked and made the area much stronger.

The Fusor I used was the metal to plastic adhesive.

Thank you everyone for your help. I apologize for not responding sooner but I have been on duty and haven't had much free time.

That fusor stuff looks awesome. Never heard of it before, and it's good to know.. Might even try it on an old plastic Wheelhorse fender I have replaced with a metal one that is good but not original on my father's C-125.

They still make all three. Mat is non woven, like OldFart said. It's basically just chopped glass laid flat and fused together. Cloth is woven, having clearly visible warps and wefts. The heavier version is called roving and looks like a heavy blanket.

Some cloth and epoxy should fix the roof just fine. Wear a dust mask when cutting the glass and rubber gloves when using the epoxy.

We make epoxy where I work, and I've done this type of repair before. Feel free to PM me if you want info, as I'm not here to give a sales pitch.

Fusor is what all the new cars are glued together with. They actually make a metal to metal product that many of the new cars and trucks are held together with-no welds. Body shops are now glueing on replacement quarters rather than weld them on. I believe the new Malibu rood panels are glued into placed and the door skins are also glued to the doors.

Z-spar makes a 2 part epoxy putty called splash zone that works great and is ez to use. The first time I used it I repaired the keel coolers of a steel boat(underwater) and it held for the whole season. You just mix it with your hands(keep them wet) and put it on like putty after 24 hrs you can sand, drill, paint it or whatever. It works better on plastic than marine tex and is easier to use. Only drag is it is olive drab after you mix it but it paints well.
Good Luck
Rick
