I have craftsman 4.5 push mower. I get no spark when the starter is pulled. any ideas what might be the problem. the rope is engaging the pully so I know the crank is turning. is there a way to test the electrical system on these and is it worth replacing the parts or just start over with a new mower since I think the unit cost maybe 150 bucks.

greenthumb,

Sounds like it's time for a new mower /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

First start out with a new plug, then if nothing still, remove the
top cover and pull the little wire loose from the coil[little
box that the plug wire comes from], put the cover back on and
test again. If still nothing, then the coil is bad. Make sure the
metal side of the plug is touching the metal of the engine
when you test.
