I have a Craftsman 15.5 HP lawn tractor with a Kohler engine that is about 7 years old. The tractor is in pretty good condition. The engine has been great but I have a problem with the deck. I hit a small stump that must have heaved up somehow in sixth gear while mowing and ripped the deck in front. It tore the front mounting nearly off on one side. My Dad welded it but I can't get it to adjust properly anymore. I really don't need it now that I have a Kubota 7500 but would like to keep it around or at least sell it. Do you think anyone would buy it in its present condition and what is it worth? The engine itself although not new has got to be worth something to someone.

A new deck is about $500 and the deck shell is $122 plus a couple of other parts I would need. I would have to take all of the parts off of the old one and put them on the new one but it won't be easy with the rusted bolts. There is also no guarantee that the parts on there are all perfect.

About the only thing more worthless than a lawnmower that won't lawn mow is an obsolete computer. It may be worth a 100 dollars or so. I have given stuff like that away, cost more to fix than it is worth and I don't have the time to search for parts from other derilicts. J

Take the deck off and sell it as a tractor for pulling a cart doing yard work. I have done this with my old mower and it makes for a perfect pulling machine for my wife when doing yard work. She piles all kinds of rakes and shovels, pots and plants, and has a ball.

gusg.....look at the front of the mounting bars. There is a loop hook that raises and lowers the deck. There are two brackets on either end of the unit that support the mower. They are held on with two 3/8 shoulder bolts. During impact, they sometimes get pushed up. If you loosen those two bolts on both sides, you should be able to realign the deck. Happens all the time. BTW, I posted on you Kubota... Know those pretty good too. <wink>

Thanks. I will take a look at that in the morning. I didn'st think to look anyplace else except for the mower and tractor interfaces.
