Have been cleaning up my tool boxes lately and came across a set of craftsman closed end ratched wrenches. kinda klunky.. can't believe I bought them at one time.. but must have.. I'm guesisng they must be at least 15ys old... shiney metal face.. black plastic margin.. anyway.. one of them is 5/8 and 3/4.. and the 3/4 side just spins...

sears still replace these things? do I need my reciept? if so.. it's just going into the garbage.. no chance of me ever finding it.. that was 2 wives ago! ;)

No receipts are required. I took in an old pair of loppers because I wanted to replace the handle grip. The salesman grabbed a new pair from the shelf, (no replacement handle grips), and wished me a nice day.

Another time, second replacement pair; the rubber cushion rotted away. Same old story as the clerk just gladly handed me another new lopper. No request for a receipt.

I hope this pair lasts a long time. The replacement for them, although carrying the Craftsman label, is an inferior product. Nevertheless, if my current pair of loppers fail, and I return them to Sears for replacement; my original investment of $30 was a good one.

As long as craftsman is on it they should replace it. Just took back a couple ratchets a few weeks ago, no problem. Dont need reciept. Dad took a power drill back a year or so ago that had to be 20 years old and the gave him a brand new on and fixed the old one and gave it back. I couldnt believe it.

Good to hear. I'll throw it inthe truck for the next trip into town.

will post back what I find.

I hope they still make them.. hec.. if they don't.. I'd be happy enough to get a wrench that works in return!

keep this in mind...

even if they no longer carry or make that specific style wrench, they'll give a comparable replacement, free of charge. U might even get an upgraded version of the original.

IIRC, that style ratchet wrench was improved...

The warranty is very clear:

Full unlimited warranty on craftsman hand tools
If any Guranteed Forever Craftsman Hand Tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, RETURN IT TO ANY SEARS STORE OR CRAFTSMAN OUTLET and it will be replaced, free of charge.

I've never had a problem of any kind.

My ultimate fear is what happens if Sears goes belly up, which is entirely possible.

This is the very reason that I own "a lot" of Craftsman tools, the explicit warranty. I have never had a problem returning a defective tool. Most recently a 3/4" drive ratched handle that developed a tendancy to skip under heavy load. Not a cheap piece of hardware, but they handed me a new one, no questions asked. For the average homeowner, I think this is a win win situation, you know you will never have to purchase another tool of this type because they stand behind them. You just have to make sure that you buy the Craftsman branded tool, not any of their off brand lines that they do carry.

Do let us know how your return goes. Good luck, though you shouldn't need it, should be a slam dunk!

Maybe its different here in western Canada, I took a couple rachets back and the best they would do is give me a new innerds, it fixed the problem, also had a couple 1/2 sockets and a screwdriver which was replaced no questions, Those Impacts sure do a job dont they

This is one reason to go to garage sales. Look for the rusty old craftsman tools pay next to nothing for them and head for the local sears.

100% agreed. all my sockets and ratchets are craftsman for that very reason. no reason to spend the big bucks on allen/matco/snapon/etc. when you basically get a tool for life with the relatively less expensive craftsman.

that's not to say all craftsman tools are created equally. i've had good luck with the handtools. some the electronics and power tools are iffy.

keep you eyes open for old craftsman ratchets and sockets at garage sales and flea markets. even if they break or crack or whatever, you can just take them back to sears for a shiny new one!
