Why doesn't craftsman make their sockets in both 6 and 12 point in all the sizes? They sell a socket organizer set that goes in your tool box, but don't make all the sockets to fill it. Doesnt matter I guess but would be nice to have a really complete set. Have bought a couple of snap on sockets off Ebay but can't justify the cost. However there is a major difference in quality. The 1 1/2in. 1/2in. drive snap on socket I bought makes its Craftsman counterpart look sad($35 retail vs. $6). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If looking for bigger sockets liek that that on ebay look for Williams or Wright socket sets in a 3/4" drive set. We have a 3/4" drive Wright set on the farm and it is a very good quality item.

I saw a Wegith 3/4" drive set last week on ebay go for about $100, it made someone a heck of a set at a great price.

I completely agree on the quality and price between Snap-on and Craftsman, but when you don't have to use them everyday then how do you justify something that costs 5X-6X as much.

I know that the quality is not the same, but I can abuse and misuse Craftsmen hand tools and have them replaced under warranty, no questions asked. Try using a Snap-On screwdriver for a crow bar or a punch and see if the Snap-On guy will replace it, not usually.

I actually just bought a craftsman 16pc. 3/4 drive set from sears. It was on craftsman club sale plus sears sent me an email for another 10% off, so I actually got it cheaper than they usually sell on Ebay. I am not really dissappointed with my craftsman tools, you cant beat the warraty. I just wish they would make all sizes in 6 and 12 point. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I quit buying Craftsman some years back because I was told that the terms of their warranty had changed & that they had eliminated the lifetime warranty gig. Now I'm wondering if that statement was true? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I still have a broken 1/2" Craftsman breaker bar in the barn.

I have never had a problem getting a replacement for any craftsman tool. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Warrany hasn't changed...

I even buy old Craftsman tools at flea markets and garage sales... the quality is better on the old tools, and Sears doesn't require a reciept when you need to replace it...

The last time I bought something at Sears in the way of tools was about 8-9 months ago. They had a couple different sets of sockets, one less expensive than the other. One had a lifetime warranty and the other did not.

That is true they started a cheaper brand called "Companion" the does not have a lifetime warranty. These look like light duty homeowner type tool (no big stuff). The craftsman brand tools are still warranted forever. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Warranty change involved electric tools....and this changed many years ago...maybe 12-15. They added "Sears" line to Craftsman hand tools, I haven't seen the "Companion." Sears line is limited warranty, but Craftsman hand tools are still lifetime. Unless you lose them..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif We lose more sockets around here than we have ever broken.
