cranks but doesn't start

My wife's told me yesterday that the BX-24 wouldn't start. We just paid it off so I figured it was the battery at 48 months old. I went out with her this morning and she turned the key and the battery/starter turned the engine over just fined but it wouldn't start. After the third extended try at starting it, she said she thought it was one a malfunctioning safety switche. She fiddled with all the levers on the right side controls, turned the key and it started right up. Would a safety switch allow the engine to turn over but not start?

No.
Could be just a coincidence, or maybe fiddling with some lever moved a wire harness that was shorting or not making a connection. Tough to diagnose now that it's started.

Sounds like a glow plug issue. Loose wire or one is burned out. You can check with an ohm meter.

The D902 engine uses an external fuel shutoff solenoid, so unless the solenoid or the fuel shutoff lever is jammed, if it cranks it should start. Check glow plug circuit for power. Also check to see if you hear clicking sound of lift pump also.

My wife spoke to the mechanic @ the dealer and he said give it some throttle when starting. She did that and it started right up.
