Silicon Bronze will work well even with straight Argon. There are stick electrodes available too.

Or you can tig it! It welds fast tho, so yo gotta be ready to race! :D Here is some 1/4 stainless to 1/8 mild I did

to show someone about joining dissimilar metals. I used 1/16 silicon bronze filler.

Why would you use SiBr when you could use 309 to do it? That would be the best method, and maybe the cheapest. Nice weld though.

Was just a topic on what can Si Bronze weld as far as dissimilar metals goes, and this scrap was right in front of me. The talk was more about non Integral joints of dissimalar materials.

'nother thought.
Hi density plastic tubing as a sleeve or collar.
While Teflon is very slick, high density PVC is also a great bushing for many applications and very easy to machine.

Already been suggested and discarded - see my post on the first page... Steve

Sintered bronze bushings are cheap and self oiling. The heat of friction makes them "sweat" oil. Silicon bronze rod might fill pits in the base metal but you should still use a good bearing or it will just gall.

Been gone for a few days. Didnt think I would get that many replys to my question. I have fixed my problem, but didnt take any before pics, so i took a few this morning to sort of show what I was dealing with. In the first pic, you can see the piece that was so rusted. I cut this part off the bottom of the upright and machined a new one and welded into the bottom of the post. The second pic is just to show how thick the pipe is. The third is the support base. I cut off the gussets and replaced them. The final pic is of the boom mounted on the splitter. Everything is working like it should and I have used the boom to pickup 26in dia whiteoak that I splitted last wkend. I appreciate all the replys and suggestions.
