Mokelly in his post covered what I was saying...these credit card companies due to the new regulations imposed on them have gotten real picky on who they keep...they love your wife ...she uses the heck out of her card and they make money....You....they don't like so much...they would rather you just go away...you probably pay off your charges every month like I do...they don't care for us...LOL

LOL LOL you hit THAT ONE right on the head...I have never paid them a cent in interest or late charges...they must hate me. Yes, I am proud to be a DEADBEAT....they make enough money off those who have poor credit and pay interest to overlook people like Brin and myself. Points well taken from Mokelly and BabyGrand.

Credit cards and scoring make little sense to me anyway. My wife carries balances and pays interest on several cards and I always pay my bill in full on one card, yet her credit score is better than mine. To me it is the exact opposite of logic, those who owe little on credit and never pay interest are better credit risks. I know the card companies prefer people like my wife but to me the credit score should be in the favor of someone who owes zero $$ versus someone who owes $30,000.00.

So use your wife's credit card to make your purchases and quit complaining. If your identity gets stolen and the thieves try to charge their classic $999 purchase, you'll be happy they made you call first. Oh I know, nobody's gonna steal your I.D. Yes, they will cover the theft, but you'll eventually pay for it via yearly charges etc.

Why don't you just write a check for these rare purchases? Jeez....

Wife is always near her credit limit...so there goes your idea. And exactly HOW DOES ONE MAKE AN ONLINE PURCHASE USING A CHECK???

JD, Get a new card with a credit union. Set limit to 10,000 or so. Your only protecting them with this call in junk not you, you are only responsible for 50 bucks as long as you contact them within 60 days. Your state my very, Good luck.

They are covering their A** and protecting you at the same time. Any unusual transaction gets flagged for verification. As you stated, your usual transactions are small and verification limit is about 5 times what you usually spend at any given time.

I have had my card flagged to call in based on 3 in store charges within a short time. It was a planned shopping trip to several big box stores but, the computer recognized it as an unusual event on the account. So, I called in and verified it was me- no big deal.

Anytime we go out of town, we call the credit union to let them know the area(s) we will be in so they don't flag the account. never been a problem.

It really has nothing to do with how much or how little you pay in fees or interest. The computer recognizes a potential threat and acts to protect the bank and the card holder. An acceptable inconvenience in my mind- especially since it is an infrequent event.

Guys, I have had a credit card from Chase for at least 15 years now and my credit record with them is impeccable as it my credit rating (800+) but they are really beginning to tick me off. Unlike my wife who charges everything on her cards, I have only two credit cards and basically only use the Chase one, most of my purchases are $50-150 at most. Problem is, when I want to charge a big-ticket item like a plasma tv or a computer they want me to contact them first at the toll-free number and let them know I am making a charge of over $500 (which is what they told me two years ago) and it's really beginning to irritate the h*ll out of me. I might make a charge of over $500 once or twice a year but I might need to make one in an emergency situation like a car repair and it is a PIB having to call and let Chase know I want to exceed their $500 limit.

Called them this morning and told them quote: "My wife can charge $3000 on her card any time she wants and never needs to call you for authorization but you limit me to $500 for what reason?" They told me well if you want to make a charge that is out of the ordinary for you we will put a hold on the charge until you call us. What utter BS !!! My credit limit is twenty grand and I have never used even a tenth of that at one time. I told them this morning if you put a hold on any charge I make under my credit limit for ANY REASON AT ALL from now on I am going to cancel my card and go elsewhere. They say well this is for your protection I told them BULLS*** it's for your protection because you say my liability in case of fraudulent use of my card is $50 and then I hung up on them.

Any comments? Thanks.

My take is, you may have your credit limit, but your NORMAL purchases are $50- $150 at a time....
the over $500 is the safety and potential WARNING for them (and you) if someone gets the card and runs wild with high dollars purchases. Same thing can hold true if you travel great distance (from Home or county) where 99.99999% of your purchases take place. If you are travelling, technically they might like/prefer a call,
advising them of your especially if going to (Nigeria) <grin>. so a purchase you are transacting, does not get impeded.

It IS a shame that, do to circumstances and/or actions of theives, we are made to feel like, we are being treated
as children..... Mommy I want to buy a new toy.... OK???? Can I ? Just chalk it up to being in a corrupt connected world.

As stated by others too, your prudent fiscal management, is not in their best fiscal interest.
WEAR IT PROUDLY..........

So let's get this straight. You are using their service, not paying any interest and complaining because its not convenient enough when you want to make the occasional large purchase? :confused2: I'm pretty sure they'd be quite happy if you left.

But, he is paying transaction fees although he probably is under their revenue per card holder target.

Do you guys ever check your credit information? You can get one free credit history report per year. I don't check very often but mine are never accurate, especially regarding past addresses. I think the more common your name is, the more errors your report will have.

I did the online request and I could see from the questions they were asking, the intent was to figure out which of 6 or 8 people with the same name am I.

I think credit rating is not to rate how responsible your and how well you manage your money, but to indicate how close you are to their ideal customer and to encourage you to be that good sucker, I mean customer.

My take is, you may have 20k credit limit, but your NORMAL purchases are $50- $150 at a time....

Bing Bing. I think this is why you are getting flagged. You $500 purchases are out of line of your normal buys.

Years ago, I think it might have been on a Chase card, I got a phone call about two purchases I had just made. They were something like $300 each and made at two different near by stores. I guess from the looks of the purchases they looked fraudulent. I was ok with the phone calls and frankly I wish the credit card companies would ask more often. BTW, I ditched Chase decades ago after decades of use because they started messing with the due dates and the date when the mailed out the bill. They were making it very easy to pay late and generated late charges. I canceled their a....ss after I caught them once and told them to change the billing dates to what it had used to be. They did and a few months later they were playing games again so I canceled.

We just had fraudulent charges on a CC, three to be exact. Not sure how the ^&*() got the CC number but the company somehow knew the charges were fraudulent and took them off the bill ASAP. Two of the charges were over $500. I would not mind them calling me at all to check on the validity of the charges.

We pay off the bill every month and we put almost everything we buy on the CC since we get anywhere between 1-5% back depending the purchase. The CC bill can be quite scary sometimes.:D

Later,
Dan

True- the card company is willing to put up 20K of their money for you at any time. That is a privilege they have granted and not a right. Should they require you to jump through hoops wearing a tutu while juggling eggs- that is their right.

Regardless, it truly is their game in the credit card world. I got fed up with it and although it took a while, got rid of them all. The only "plastic" I have now is my debit/visa linked to my account. Yet this is still flagged for unusual activity and I still appreciate it. In the last 5 years I have gotten several new cards because of security breaches at local merchants so- the potential of having your identity or account information hacked is fairly high.
