Thanks for all the ideas! I think I'll do like Polecat suggested and pull my reports off the other bureaus. I'm sort of in the market to upgrade my digs and I don't need any repairable problems hanging me up on getting a loan. Then I'll price other car insurance companies. My truck is depreciating but my insurance keeps going up.

This bothered me too. Then I realized that the insurance should go down if the vehicle is stolen or in a fire due to its dropping value where there is a total loss. However, it should go up if it needs to be repaired from a collision or for a medical claim from an accident as those costs continue to rise. I'm guessing the collision and medical claim is more likely than a total loss.

That brings up a question I've been asking myself lately.....At what vehicle value do you finally drop collision??

Check out AIG insurance. It's save the wife and I a bunch.

When the Vehicle has no value to you.

My Mom is driving my Grandfathers (her Dad) 1988 Oldsmobile. (He passed away in '99). She got into a fender-bender and the Insurance company wanted to "total" it as the repair cost was a couple of hundred more than book value.
I believe that the Ins.Co. gave her a check for the BV and Mom put in the difference to keep the car. The car only had 47,000 original miles on it at the time, happened in 2001.
Just for kicks after the repairs were done, I put a "For Sale" sign in the window and was offered 3 times+ more than BV. Mom still has the car /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. G

I contacted them a while back to get a quote. After asking my name, the next question was "what is your SS #?". I asked why they needed that, and the reply was to do a credit check on me. I told them that I would pay the premium in full when the bill came, but he informed me that the credit check was just that... to see if I had good credit and that is used to determine my premium. I don't see what a persons credit rating has to do with their driving record or the value of the car for collision purposes. I ended the conversation by refusing to give my SS # to them. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Junkman
actually, you lucked out by just getting the SS request.. Of course you turned it down, however, I can just imagine the predicted quote if they asked for your "mug" shot /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I can't remember them asking for my SSN, doesn't mean they didn't. We've had their insurance a couple of years so it could be something new they've started.

This got me wondering, so I called my insurance agent. He told me that the companies did a study of credit rating to driving skills ( /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif) and have concluded that if you have poor credit, that you are not as safe a driver. He also said that they were able to convince the CT state insurance commissioner of this fact. They are now applying this to all new business and will probably be doing it to older policies as well in the future. They are also applying this same theory to home owner policies. The logic there is that if you have poor credit that you will not be able to maintain your home as well as if you had good credit. To me, this is nothing more than junk science being used to fleece the public to benefit the coffers of the insurance companies. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

My homeowners policy is the one they raised my rates on because of the credit rating. Which according to the credit company I have near perfect credit. But just because it looks like I owe alot of money they raised my rates. Nevermind the debt to equity ratio and the fact that I have enough money in stocks and bonds to pay off all the loans and then some.

Speaking of vehicles I learned an interesting tidbit of information today. In the beginning all cars had the steering wheel on the right hand side. In 1914 they started changing to left handed steering wheels so that the ladies wouldn't get mud thrown on them riding in the passengers seat.
