How would one use a cross drawbar?

Tom...

You mean the horizontal drawbar with ends that hitch to the lower draft links? I have one of these and I've purchased 2 drawbar grab hooks that I place in one of the eleven holes on the Cat 1 drawbar. I use the drawbar to assist in dragging logs out of the woods. With larger logs, I evenly space the drawbar hooks apart on the drawbar, insert small length (5') transport chain onto the hooks, then I place my logging tongs in middle of transport chain and hitch logging tongs onto butt end of log, and finally I lift and drag. If logs are smaller and depending on terrain conditions, I may use only one drawbar hook. In this case I attach a tow chain onto drawbar grab hook (located in middle hole of the drawbar), wrap other end around butt end of log, then I lift and drag log.

Attached is a pic of a "cross drawbar", according to TSC., with a trailer hitch mounted.

What keeps the bar from rolling when you hook your tralier up to it? I've seen the ones with a top link to keep the ball vertical. Just curious....

I have that exact drawbar. Nothing keeps it from rolling unless you have something hooked up to it. I use mine to move my boat & RV around the yard, once the tongue is locked on the ball it won't roll much. I would like to weld something to connect it to the top link though.

You can buy drawbar locking clips... see attached picture sample.

Gary, Thats why I did a little welding to one /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Every time I would try to put the ball under the trailer it would roll over. Stopped that problem for good! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Attached is a photo of my handy work! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

One of my first welding class projects was making a cross drawbar shaped like a triangle. The result is pictured. I use a pinned slot to secure hitches to the bar. At the time, I never considered the receiver hitch arrangement so popular here on TBN. This system works well for me. I have 3 different hitch attachments that I can pin to the crossbar, and use them to tow a small garden dump cart, a chipper, an air compressor and my 16' trailer, as needed. Very useful, and it saves my back!
