Cross reference on oil, transmission filters

Bought a LT2042 in May and just now have 10 hours showing.
Went to the cub dealer to buy oil and filter. I bought two quarts of Kohler 10W30 and the longer oil filter and was charged about $16 for these items. Does anyone know if conventional motor oil or conventional filters interchange?
The oil label indicated SJ rating and this in on most motor oils. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

For the 2005 CC 2000/2500 series:
Oil Filter= Carquest # 85516 (oversized, 2x as long as OEM)
Transaxle Filter = Carquest # 85410 (exact size to OEM)
You can use whatever brand/color filters you like. I like napa & carquest filters since they are made by WIX. A motorcraft FL400S or (gasp) Fram PH3600 is the same as the 85516. The 85410 is a hydraulic filter, so no worries there! Oh and any brand 10w-30 (or 5w-30 for COLD weather) will do fine in your kohler command. No need to buy 'kohler' motor oil!

A Fram PH3614 will also work for the engine. It's a little longer than the original Kohler filter but shorter than the PH3600. I use it mainly because it also fits 2 of the cars in my family so I usually have a couple on hand.
