What we thought was a condenser on a 2000 ford, ended up being a blocked fuel line. Drained the tank and found a tablespoon full of red crud and a roofing nail. Any way I tried out my new Mr. Filter on some fresh gas and again found some red residue in the bottom. I was shocked and began to worry about all of the other vechicles. I get gas from several places and am not sure where this batch came from. Question am I in an area of dirty tanks or is this a common occurence? I'm not sure if this filter is the best choice since I would have slept better not knowing. Ignorance maybe bliss!

Patrick

Sorry I meant to post this in another area, tough day with the kids I guess.

You could be getting dirty fuel, never buy fuel when or right after a tanker makes a drop. The fuel drop can kick water and crap up off of the bottom of the tank. You have to give it time to settle out. You have a bigger probability of the problem being on your end. What kind of gas cans are you using? Is your gas tank rusting out? If you don't keep your gas tank full you leave room for condensation to occur. I doubt very seriously that a roofing nail was sucked up off the bottom of the station's tank.

Roofing nail /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif by the sounds somebody playing tricks.
Where you purchase your fuel has the station remove the old style metal tanks and replace them w/ the new plastic tanks, for that might be why your getting the redish color, also the owners letting his fuel get to low before refilling.

I think the roofing nail came from a certain young fellow that I know. I've been using plastic cans for the past couple of years. Most of the old tanks have been replaced here in the past few years. I plan on doing a little snopping with my new found toy.

Good point about the filling after the tanker, I guess that I usually just think about the gas beening fresh.

Thanks,
Patrick
