A few months ago I had my F150 in the body shop getting the right side of the box replaced due to an accident. When I got it back, the cruise control didn't work, and I know it worked before it went to the shop because I use it all the time. I checked the usual items that can deactivate the cruise, no brake lights out and the brake switch working properly are the most common problems. Today I finally figured it out. I was checking the wiring under the dash, since the shop had run a new cable for the rear camera (body shop guy cut the cable instead of disconnecting it in the tailgate.), and thought maybe they had disconnected something. While I was down there, I noticed the wire that goes to a switch on the parking brake assembly, and I wondered if it could be the problem. Sure enough, the pedal was depressed about an inch, just enough to open the switch. I couldn't tell the brake was slightly applied because the instrument cluster has a bad solder joint on the printed circuit board that makes the brake warning light stay on all the time. One of these days I have to pull that out and fix it.
At least, the mystery is solved, finally.
